Ajilvsga - Red Crow LP $21.99 (Amethyst Sunset)
"Red Crow was originally released as a cassette in a limited edition of 13 copies for sale at a show Ajilvsga performed in Oklahoma in November 2008 and has been reissued on vinyl in a limited edition of 100 copies. The duo comprised of Brad Rose (The North Sea / Foxy Digitalis ) and Nathan Young (Peyote Tapes) offer up some deep and heavy buzzing drones for your summertime consumption. Screen printed LPs covers by Morgan in Oklahoma."
*Amolvacy - A La Lu La LP $14.99 (Ultramarine)
"Amolvacy is Aaron Moore from Volcano the Bear, Dave Nuss from No-Neck Blues Band, and Sheila 16 of the Laboratory Theater Group, NYC. The band creates compositions from its improvisations centered around strong elemental percussion, radical theatrical vocals, and classical acoustic instruments, reminding of Holy Modal Rounders, Moondog, The Fugs. Recurring themes in Amolvacy's texts are the pain of relationships, the affirmation of the feminine in myth, the hero's journey, and continuous need to flame the passions of the heart. "A La Lu La" specifically addresses the gap of language in facilitating accurate communication, a gap that only music at its most primal can fill. The back of the album features text by Jose da Fonseca & Pedro Carolino, two Portugese who in 1855 created an English phrasebook titled "English As She is Spoke," but who faced just one problem: they didn't know any English. The linguistic train wreck that ensues mirrors the play of language, sound, and unintentional humor on "A La Lu La." Pressed on clear vinyl and housed in die-cut sleeve.
*Agnus Dei - Paternostertitle CD $14.99 (Musik Atlach)
"Funeral dark drone project by Naomi Hoca which plays sound to dedicate to the dead based on old sacred songs and religion music. She dedicated mass at church and devoted herself to religion ancient music of the Renaissance deeply in the Middle Ages of West Europe. She is affected by the works of mysticism artists and she tries expression of the new religion music that went over the east and west from Christian faith and the point of view of the pagan. Her sound consists of drone, quotation, sacred song and her vocalization, condolence to a victim forgotten by war is dedicated to the sound."
Andrew W.K. - 55 Cadillac LP $21.99 (Ecstatic Peace)
"Andrew's first ever new-age instrumental solo piano concept album. 55 Cadillac showcases Andrew's spontaneous piano improvisations, as well as the visualized manifestations of his car. 55 Cadillac will be released on September 7th, 2009 in the UK, and on September 8th, in the USA and the rest of the world. Special edition gatefold vinyl by Ecstatic Peace! and special edition CD by Skyscraper Music Maker. The 55 Cadillac recording process began in Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, January 23rd, 2009. Andrew played his very own Steinway Concert D piano, set up for optimum tape recording by F.F.V., using a mobile triple cassette sound system. Photographer, Andrew Strasser, has completed a comprehensive photo shoot of AWK's prized 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood limousine, which features heavily into the album's artwork. Mario Dane mixed the album at Skyscraper Music Maker in Manhattan, NYC. Only 750 copies of the LP will be pressed."
*Ashtray Navigations - Sgt Pepper's Mystery Four Twenty Hex Aurora Toilet CDR $12.99 (Memoirs of an Aesthete)
"With a title like that, all our chances of being taken seriously by the world's most respected sound art publications are blown, but never mind... This new CDR is intended to be the inverse, the reverse and converse of the recent "Johnny Fuckoff" side - this time we are all-analogue, all acoustic instruments besides a 1979 vintage rare Technics analogue synth, very non-rock. A lethal overdose of harmonicas and juddering sound waves. The last 30 seconds of "Strawberry Fields" on a filthy old cassette recorder being swung around your head a million times backwards. Our own Rock Band game console is very much not in the works. Hope you can dig it." Edition of 100 copies.
*Ashtray Navigations - Sea II CDR $12.99 (Memoirs of an Aesthete)
"Reissue of a 1997 CDR on the Ignivomous label, originally limited to only 7 copies. Dug this out and spun it recently and it sounded good so here is a second edition (on the Revival label, naturally). Some have said that this early-ish Ashtray side is highly reminiscent of what young folks with looper pedals are doing these days, except that looper pedals didn't exist in those days. Or I couldn't afford them. Swirling waves of compressed analogue muck with an eye to "structure". Edition of 100 copies.
Ashtray Navigations - Caeduceus And Black Sal LP $18.99 (Memoirs Of An Aesthete)
The latest in Ashtray Navigations' ongoing vinylization of our out-of-print CDR catalogue has this amped-up mindbender from 2007... yes, the one with the cute little doggies on the cover. Except now they're on the label and the vinyl is pink. And there is no cover, just a PVC bag so it matches the Red Culture reissue. One side featuring a thick dinner of swirling tambouras, electric sitars and synths blasting out of tiny battery amp speakers wrapped in buzzing tinfoil (a description of the methodology here and not just the sound!). One side of clubfooted samba rhythms and twin guitar sustain overload which offers a key as to why Ashtray Navigations' set at Thurston's ATP a few years ago was roundly condemned as "Santana" in certain circles. Ashtray at its heaviest and most monolithic, though those words are often apply, I guess." Edition of 250 copies.
Aswara - Aswara LP $25.99 (Azriel)
"A vision artifact of ancient future harmonies and inner cosmosis. supreme inner cranial reverberational reflections of where you are. unspoken language and incorporeal communion. recorded by jason meagher at black dirt studio, vinyl pressed at rti, housed in custom stoughton gatefold jackets lovingly adorned with screen printing, color photo, stamping and hand drawing. hand numbered ed. of 320."
Albert Ayler - Bells LP $17.99 (ESP-Disk)
"Bells" is the celebrated set that overjoyed the audience at New York's Town Hall on May 1st, 1965. It's a ferocious, twenty-minute romp containing excellent group improvisation and Ayler's signature military-themed melodies. The performance marks an important shift in Albert's music: towards blurring the lines between composition and improvisation. It is also the debut recording of Charles Tyler. Reissued on 180 gram transparent vinyl with screenprinted Bells logo on the blank side."
Gato Babieri - In Search of the Mystery CD $10.99 (ESP-DISK')
"In Search of the Mystery, Gato Barbieri's debut album as leader, was recorded March 15, 1967, on the heels of his work on Don Cherry's famed Blue Note recordings: Complete Communion and Symphony for Improvisers. This avant-jazz masterpiece from the Argentine tenor saxophonist shows off his volatile, shrieking sound to full and unrelenting affect, fueled by the twin interweaving strings of cellist Calo Scott and bassist Norris Jones (Sirone) and Bobby Kapp's impressionistic drum splatter. Recorded in one day, the session exemplifies the spirited energy of the times and remains distinctive and inspiring today." "In Search of the Mystery is one of Gato Barbieri's early fiery sets. It was released on the ESP label and follows that tradition of stunningly chaotic jazz. This hit-and-run date consists of four tracks, all recorded on March 15, 1967. It is relentless, with Barbieri screaming on tenor throughout, backed by an interesting instrumental array of Sirone on bass, Calo Scott on cello, and Bobby Kapp on drums. Like most ESP dates, this is intense early cutting-edge free jazz, so much so that it continues to be in the early 21st century." - Al Campbell. Housed in digipak with liner notes.
*Barn Owl - The Conjurer LP $15.99 (Root Strata)
"The Conjurer is the latest offering by Bay Area duo Barn Owl. This new long player finds Evan Caminiti & Jon Porras finally (by way of an actual recording studio) documenting something that is a bit closer to their very heavy live sets, with expanded peaks of white light distortion and enormous valleys of bottom end. Each side opens with a brief funeral dirge to set the mood, a precession of bare bones drum beats and bell like guitar statements that bridge the gap to the wider open spaces of the almost side long 'Across The Desert Of Ash' and 'Ancient Of Days'. It may seem obvious, or even a little overwrought, but it has to be said that these guys really do evoke all kinds of cinematic drama with their music. Apocalyptic westerns, bleak melodramas, mother nature fever dreams, it all seems to come to mind amid the evening guitar passages, incantations, flute tones, and finally, the solo piano that emerges lost among the electric mayhem to close the album. Considering the amount of terrain, The Conjurer is far from being scattered or rushed sounding. The record as a whole moves at a crafted even rhythm, slowly merging from one scene of violence to the next of almost silent recovery, then back up the mountain again. An edition of 500 LPs, half colored deep red, half black. Cover etching by Evan Caminiti."
*Basillica - Rotting Desert Queen And Black Isolator Radar Strip CDR $9.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"Second CDR from Mike Vest's (BONG) solo project of hazy lo-fi ritualistic temple drone for smoked out fried brains. One long beast of a track at over 35 minutes. Limited to 100. Pro-manufactured CDRs with on disc print."
*Sindre Bjerga - UK Tour CDR $9.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"Very limited disc of raw live records from Norway's Sindre Bjerga. Two tracks recorded earlier this year in the Czech Republic, Prague 25/2/09, and Varnsdorf 26/2/09."
*Mark Bradley - Eternal CDR $9.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"New CDR from this American experimentalist who's had previous releases on Reverb Worship and Basses Frequences. Six tracks across only 19 minutes, totally far out dream tone keys blending into one another pushing you into an almost nightmarish state of mind. Eternal could almost work as a 70s Italian horror soundtrack with its minimal blurred humming almost reminiscent of some kind of devil organ. Limited to 100 copies. Pro-manufactured CDRs with on disc print."
Cromagnon - Cave Rock CD $10.99 (ESP-DISK')
"Already commercially successful as tune-smiths for teenyboppers, Austin Grasmere and Brian Elliot approached Bernard Stollman looking to focus their talents on something more original and unrestrained. Stollman asked, "What would be your theme?" and Elliot replied: "Everything is one." Bernard said, "Go do it." What followed was Cromagnon's (Grasmere, Elliot and the Connecticut Tribe) non-linear journey through the subconscious, weaving together bizarre instrumentation and meter with a psychotic blending of musical styles. Bagpipes, pounding percussion, blood-curdling yelps, chanting, laughing, and billowing subterranean rumblings create the otherworldly soundscape that is Cave Rock. Heralded as one of the best freak-out records of all time, Cave Rock was ridiculously ahead of its time and brings to mind the savage sound-fuckery of Nurse with Wound and Throbbing Gristle as well as the hallucinations of early Red Krayola." "An anomaly, even on the always far out ESP label, Cromagnon was the brainchild of Brian Eliot and Austin Grasmere,...They made a truly inspired music, a sort of Dadaist psychedelic folk, tribal and raw, ridiculous but enchanting. It's hard to believe that a record as completely far-out as Orgasm was recorded in 1969. Bands these days can't be this whacked even if they try, especially if they try." - Andee Connors. Housed in digipak with liner notes.
Aaron Dilloway - Chain Shot CD $9.99 (Hanson)
LP review: 'With only tape loops, metal, and horns (and sometimes, it seems, metal on horns) the two side long pieces, 'Chain Shot' and 'Execution Dock' respectively, explore the ugly underbelly of noise before just scraping right through and aiming for the insides. In a genre that has quickly turned into a broad and often inaccurate description of a certain breed of every-man experimental music, Dilloway sticks to the old-fashioned definition of noise, doing battle with the materials in front of him as he continues the construction of his impressive body of work. Dilloway, a former member of noise-titans Wolf Eyes, has recently been releasing solo work that explores much more abstract and thoughtful terrain than his previous group's onslaughts. 'Chain Shot' is more a sound collage than anything, and while it is a heaping glob of muddled debris, it is also a highly controlled one. Looping samples on top of samples, Dilloway builds a slowly encroaching beast before slowly disintegrating it, bone by bone. This is some highly textural and immediately emotive soundscape work. 'Execution Dock' begins with a repeating loop of what sounds like the beginning and the end syllables of some nut's conversation with a lamppost. In the distance sounds a pained song of sorts, like a rodent's death cry, or maybe its birth one. I'm guessing maybe this is the horn, though it would be tough to be certain about much of anything here. Delayed creaks and groans float in and around as the vocal sample dissipates, leaving you sloshing through the mud puddle only to realize that its a tar pit the size of La Brea." - Henry Smith,
http://earconditionednightmare.blogspot.com. Digipak CD reissue of CHAIN SHOT LP which was originally released on LP by THRONE HEAP. Contains a 28 minute bonus track not on vinyl version.
*Aaron Dilloway - Corpse on Horseback cassette $5.99 (Hanson)
"Reissue of this absolutely CLASSIC cassette by Dilloway. total loop brutality that reminds of The New Blockaders. harsh and minimal and totally fucking UGLY. this edition features a painful remix of the original tape via Hive Mind. hissy and gross and just plain not fun."
*Aaron Dilloway / Robert Turman - split cassette $5.99 (Hanson)
Split release between myself and Robert Turman. Robert was an original member of NON back in the late 1970's appearing on the first 7-inch MODE OF INFECTION. He released a number of very limited solo cassettes throughout the 80's, including the monster 8-cassette box set CHAPTER ELEVEN (1976-1987). He and I have been working on remastering his old tapes over the last year, and Robert has also starting recording and performing again. His side of this cassette is just a taste of what is to become an onslaught of new recordings and unearthed classic industrial RT material to be released on HANSON. Twisted voices, waves of static hiss, disorienting and bizarre horn and string melodies, looped and delayed into a perfectly paced piece of surreal sound. My side is influenced by my recent collaboration recordings with Cleveland scumbag Wyatt Howland aka SKIN GRAFT. A confusing meld of organic and electronic sounds recorded using 8-track loops of synth, metal percussion, and radio static.
Diminished Men - Shadow Instrumentals LP $16.99 (Abduction)
"Seattle's Diminished Men present a full-length record for the Abduction label. This LP is a limited edition of 500 copies and comes pressed on 180 gram vinyl. "If current instrumental music was always as majestic and compelling as this, I'd hang up my retro-Italian soundtrack collector's boots for good. From the explosive drums rolls on the opening track, the only cover on the record, "L'Appel du Vere," from Roman Polanski's The Tenant (music by Philippe Sarde), to the darkly exotic finale, "A Housewife's Dram," this album is a superbly crafted mosaic of whip-cracking vengeance, speak-easy hallucinations and haunted geography. Besides the Italian-Western overtones, the carnival-esque freakshow backdrops, Korshid-Egyptian guitar passages, and flipped-out electronic space-psych, are perhaps the best surf-inspired tracks I've heard in years. It's spine-chilling how producer Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Earth, Eyvind Kang, Sun City Girls, Secret Chiefs 3, Six Organs Of Admittance, Wayne Horvitz, Matt Chamberlain, Grails, Wolves In The Throne Room, etc.) managed to make this record the ultimate mid-'60s surf-vampire-Western revival soundtrack. Elements of Joe Meek's best Moontrekkers productions cross with a dash of Badalamenti murder blues-drama, setting the stage for Steve Schmitt's cobra-twilight guitar work and the outlaw drums of Dave Abramson to leave their indelible stains across this 41-minute epic journey." - Alan Bishop
Emeralds - Emeralds cassette $5.99 (Hanson)
"These midwest druggies really know what they are doing... Guitar synths, and tapes hallucinations that sound like they could maybe be an unedited ULTRA recording. Fans of the surreal sound of NWW and company should check these boys out..."
Emeralds - Solar Bridge CD $10.99 (Hanson)
"Starting out in 2005 performing live sets using only television sets as sound sources, Emeralds has grown in recent years into a monster of HEAVY improvised drone using analog synths and masterfully effected guitar. Born out of the midwest scum-noise scene, these guys have taken the INTENSE HEAVINESS of their midwest brethren to a place that is entirely their own. They have replaced the creepy atmosphere and abrasive harsh noise of their peers w/ a VERY DIFFERENT though EQUALLY INTENSE blast of COSMIC DRONE POWER! HANSON RECORDS is proud to announce EMERALDS - SOLAR BRIDGE, the trio's first full-length album after numerous cassette and cd-r releases on such labels as American Tapes, Chondritic Sound, and the bands own imprints Wagon and Gneiss Things. The album opens with the side long "MAGIC" where the band builds a quiet drone into an extreme thick sawblade of swirling noise as beautiful as it is menacing. The flip is yet another sidelong journey titled "THE QUAKING MESS", a track that stabs your brain with fluttering sparks of synthesized needles before relaxing you into a Göttschingesque dream state while slowly bringing you back to earth with an electronic wave of molten rumble. Fans of the smooth tones of 'New Age Of Earth' era Ash Ra Tempel and the buzzing thick drones of Throbbing Gristle's 'Heathen Earth' should take note, as Emeralds may be their new source for electronic drugs."
*Emuul - The Ghostwood Estates cassette $9.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"Emuul is the project of Kyle Iman, he sent me a double 3" CDR that was his first released recordings or demo if you will, I think there were something like 40 copies, barely any, and I gotta say that it was so good I asked to reissue it. Kyle's far out ambient electronic dream scapes were originally available in a nice little pouch, this reissue features new minimal j-card art by Kyle. Check out the review of the original self released edition over at <http://digitalisindustries.com/foxyd/reviews.php?which=4762>Foxy Digitalis Pro-dubbed cassettes."
*Donato Epiro - Sounding the Sun CDR $7.99 (Stunned)
"Over the course of 'Sounding the Sun', Italian psych magician Donato Epiro aims his wand in all directions of the acoustical field, doing his best chameleon's dance with drums, flute, chanting, and strings. An impressive dynamism is in play when Donato takes his bonfire percussion & fluttering raga loops, then swiftly braids them down to stilled passages of minimalist vibration. It's a blissful abduction of the ear's attention/perception, harnessed to a pervasive feeling of time running backwards as the album spins forward. A beautiful and unpredictable escape to some far off sunny fields of a magical land long, long ago. Limited edition of 100 hand stamped cdrs with double-sided insert card & color cover in vinyl jacket."
*Espers - III LP $17.99 (Drag City)
"Picking up the threads with ease, Espers III was intended to be an aural reversal of the layered sound of II. The goal was to record fewer tracks in order to achieve a stronger, more oxygenated sonic presence. Where II was almost claustrophobic in its density and darkness, III was envisaged as being somehow lighter, effervescent; perhaps even of a cheery disposition at times (whoa there! Don't go not breaking our heart, Espers). Under these auspices, recording started in late 2008 and spilled into the spring and summer of 2009. As more time passed in the recording process, a growing dementia within both song and lyrics emerged, making even the most ethereal songs on III seem oddly unwholesome to all involved. As with past releases (both by Espers and significant others), III was recorded with the vinyl LP in mind, playing as a whole divided into two equally weighted sides. Recorded to analog tape and mixed to analog tape again at the end, the songs ended up in a stippled, rippling, ever-flowing space, another important factor in the realization of III. 'Space' is a core concept here -- each of these songs in some way access new space, whether they are envisioning, locating, or claiming and colonizing it. In fact, III's working title was Colony, owing to a subtextual thought process that encompassed aspects of Herzog's Aguirre, Heart of Darkness, cult groups, deep Amazonian treks, religious nation building, ritualistic drug ceremonies (taking drugs to take canoe trips to take drugs on) -- eg., escape from assimilation, surviving cultural wars by embedding themselves in the wilderness, among friends and fellow travelers. The cover aesthetic and Xavier Schipani's arresting artwork mirror these themes and Espers' desire to reach beyond what might be expected of an Espers album with metaphoric imagery and increased dimensionality -- not just a new Espers album, but indeed, a new Espers."

Eternal Tapestry - The Invisible Landscape LP $13.99 (Not Not Fun)
"Last year's Mystic Induction LP captured PDX wah junkies Eternal Tapestry at their hairiest hour, awash in color trails and nightshade flashbacks. Since then they've reverted back to their original power trio line-up, circled the tube amps, and written a fresh, flooring set of brand new electric rippers. And The Invisible Landscape is the fruit of this from-bliss-to-blistering evolution/revolution. It's packed deep with six kraut-punk psych-shredders, huffing fumes from the twin guitar hero dogfighting of Dewey Mahood and Nick Bindeman while drum demon Jed Bindeman does barrel rolls and nosedives into the eye of the storm. There's also a rawness and warmth to the production that helps the songs bleed into the ear with more electricity than before, and the riff/vocals interplay is streamlined for optimum mainlining. A fiery high point for a fiery high band. Hit it or quit it. Randomly colored LPs (hues range from silt grey to swamp green and beyond) in pro-printed jackets with art by the band plus a photocopied insert. Edition of 500." Restock.
James Ferraro - Body Fusion 1 CDR $12.99 (Summer Headrush)
"Third installment in a new series of releases from Ferraro, part of his Summer Headrush 2009 Series vision. Inspired by "Visualisations that came to mind while receiving self-induced hypocapnia or as it's commonly called 'free fall', the albums being representative of the free fall head space." Body Fusion 1 presents a themed suite with track titles like "Shemale", "Pregnant Air", "Angel Alien" and "Species Within" that takes off in Multitopia's transformative worlds-within-worlds style. Cut-up throughout with pitch-shift sonic reassignments of she-males and transvestite phone sex lines that promise "fantasy fulfilment 24/7" the music feels like an attempt to mint a form of holy/devotional reverie directed towards the celebration of the gatekeepers of the most primal, transformational sexual urges, with lap-dancing clubs, peep shows, strip bars and chatlines re-imagined as temples to the lifeforce. Featuring some of James's darkest transits, the music is built around huge organ drones that build to the kind of otherwordly ascensions of Popol Vuh's "Vuh" over which he drops in huge crashes of percussion and eerie music box melodies. Full colour covers too. Highly recommended." - Volcanic Tongue
James Ferraro - Body Fusion 2 CDR $12.99 (Summer Headrush)
"Fourth installment in a new series of releases from Ferraro, part of his Summer Headrush 2009 Series vision. Inspired by "Visualisations that came to mind while receiving self-induced hypocapnia or as it's commonly called 'free fall', the albums being representative of the free fall head space." This second volume of Body Fusion continues the first's theme of body transformation, she-males and temples to the sex urge by combining massed keyboard drones, modal takes on 80s soundtrack melodies and disturbing, modulated phone sex voices where 1-800-Shemale callers are offered dial-in fantasises over ascensions of percussion, cartoon voices and fleets of orchestrated dogs (!?). Ferraro makes particularly profound use of samples of wordless vocals played on a keyboard, creating a form of sci-fi chorale that paralelles the themes of surgical transformation, hypnagogic implants and the desire to exceed and confuse the limits of the body in a form of human/alien communion. It genuinely sounds like nothing else. Titles include "Genitalia Eclipse", "Data Implant", "De Ja Vu Axis" and "Clown Fish Prayer". Full colour covers. Highly recommended." - Volcanic Tongue
James Ferraro - Rerex 1 CDR $12.99 (Summer Headrush)
"First installment in a new series of releases from Ferraro, part of his Summer Headrush 2009 Series vision. Inspired by "Visualisations that came to mind while receiving self-induced hypocapnia or as it's commonly called 'free fall', the albums being representative of the free fall head space." Rerex 1 has some of the endless, oceanic sound of Ferraro's landmark Marble Surf, with extensive use of fourth world choral melodies and loops of percussion. A themed suite of tracks that breaks down into individual 'movements', Ferraro's compositional logic is at its most complex here, with weird intersecting keyboard lines that seem to move in simultaneous directions while blooming into gorgeous lonely refrains that sound like a fading afterimage of Terry Riley hallucinating the 1980s. Full colour covers. Recorded for "dynamic HD head phone experience. Please use headphones." Highly recommended." - Volcanic Tongue
James Ferraro - Rerex 2 CDR $12.99 (Summer Headrush)
"Second installment in a new series of releases from Ferraro, part of his Summer Headrush 2009 Series vision. Inspired by "Visualisations that came to mind while receiving self-induced hypocapnia or as it's commonly called 'free fall', the albums being representative of the free fall head space." Full review to follow. Rerex 2 continues the sub-aqueous dream tone feel of the first volume but here the music feels more orchestral and explosively psychedelic. The second track is a spectacular loop/choral construct that is up there with Marble Surf and the final track on The Skaters' side of the California box set in terms of hypnotic eulogy, with wave after wave of poignant minor-chord lament dissolving into fuzz before Ferraro steps in with some wild electric guitar, tearing fast, psychedlic leads from out of the tape fug. And it keeps building until the end, each movement pushing the whole deal closer to the surface before breaking the water completely on the final sun-bleached instrumental. With full colour covers. Recorded especially for "dynamic HD head phone experience. Please use headphones." Highly recommended." - Volcanic Tongue
Forest Creature - Forest Creature CD $13.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"Very pleased to announce the first 'proper' release from this local duo of Ben Moon and Richard Sides, and a very new sound for Blackest Rainbow. Forest Creature has been through many different sounds, starting as a fairly harsh noise experience opening for bands like Wolf Eyes and Jazkamer back when we did shows, they later on incorporated live drums and screwed up vocals, and a purely animal live experience. The duo's sound has progressed more and more over the last year, with more and more different sounds collating to make Forest Creature reach a point where they have their very own sound. Their previous sound would've fitted nicely into the Load Records roster, and then building to sound more like some kind of blend of Black Dice, early Animal Collective and Fuck Buttons. But now over the last few months I've experienced some of their best live performances yet (performed in near total darkness with flickering TV screen and bulbs) they pummel their audience with thumping beats, raging psychedelic synth, broken glitches and clicks, they seemed to have found a definite place that seems to be right for them. Strangely enough some of this material even reminds me of the supreme days of Sheffield's techno and IDM music boom back in the late 80s and early 90s with legends like Autechre, Black Dog, and the hay day of my favourites on Warp Records. If you're into Black Dice, Warp Records, Animal Collective and aren't afraid of a little beat here and there then I suggest you check out Forest Creature! Glass mastered pro pressed CD (not CDR) in full colour pro printed CD wallet."

*The Haters - In The Shade of Fire CD $9.99 (Hanson)
"HANSON RECORDS is proud to present the first LP from THE HATERS, 'IN THE SHADE OF FIRE' reissued for the first time on the CD format AND for the first time in it's original ENTIRETY. Originally released on LP by SILENT RECORDS in 1986, this digipak CD edition has been remastered by Warn Defever from the original master reels, and includes the full COMPLETE ALBUM as two of the tracks had to be shortened to fit on the original LP issue."
*Heads - Tilburg double LP $26.99 (Rooster)
"Limited edition double vinyl bootleg of the Live In Tilburg mail order only CD issued by the band via their website, and rightly given album of the month status on Julian Cope's Head Heritage site. In 2008 THE HEADS were convinced to undertake their first tour of more than three dates in over 7 years, by going on a seven-date jaunt in the UK and Europe with fellow travelers the Wooden Shjips. As ever the Heads taped most of the performances, and in Tilburg, they got an audience tape, desk tape, and stage tape, so, with the aid of the mighty Latch they put together this here "Bootleg". A perfect snapshot of the Heads in full flight, as heavy and as dense as they can get, yet soaring far off into the vapors with their inimitable psych noise blastings. Much ignored in the UK for the past decade or so, the Heads might well be getting a wave of recognition right now, and this is a very good way to immerse oneself into the world of the Heads. Limited edition of 500 copies. UK import." - Revolver
*Heavy Winged - Heavy Winged cassette $9.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"Very pleased to announce that after much ongoing talk between me and the band, Blackest Rainbow will be issuing the very first Heavy Winged cassette. A total beast from this cross country American trio of Ryan, Jed and Brady recorded just after a 4 day east coast tour in November 2007 at Ryan's house in Vermont. The music switches between pure heavy repetitive riffing, drum kit massacre and shredding bass to more melancholy weird minimal bits, which actually co-inside with the last jam the band did before parting ways across the map. Nevertheless, this is another totally amazing and essential release from one of my favourite bands around right now. Limited to 200. Pro-dubbed cassettes."
Gary Higgins - Seconds LP $15.99 (Drag City)
"A beautiful acoustic-based record featuring careful, melancholy arrangements in the tradition set by Gary's famous 1974 masterpiece 'Red Hash', but with a few unpredictable musical touches. Gary Higgins is a monumental figure in the folk-psych cult. 'Seconds.' strings together moments of life, working through regrets and reflections on fallibility, the odd flashback, and a few hopes for the future over the course of seven deep songs. 'Seconds.' weaves black threads of lyrical reflection into its sleeve in the shortlived Higgins tradition. Gary is accompanied on 'Seconds.' by The Random Concept, comprised of his musical companions through the years, several of whom played on 'Red Hash', including Dave Beaujon, Terry Fenton, Graham Higgins and Dave VandeBogart."

*Inca Ore - Silver Sea Surfer School LP $12.99 (Not Not Fun)
"Eva Saelens' life quest has taken her from Michigan to Oregon to Oakland back to Portland and back again, with several overseas explorations and inner journey road trips thrown in for good measure. Whatever path she's on is long and winding and hidden in the shadow of overhanging cherimoya trees. Fortunately she maps her migrations with haunted, exotic breath-and-electricity sphinxes ranging from 2006's Brute Nature Vs. Wild Magic to last year's brainwashing Birthday Of Bless You LP. 2009 finds her offering up another psychic harvest unto the world, Silver Sea Surfer School, a new nine-song pipeline ride that floats through a whole new web of voice orbs and tape hiss and keyboard balladry. If anything, Silver Sea is Saelens' weirdest hour, layered in abstract environments, whispers, distant poetry, free percussion loops, with sudden passages of heart-dissolving ghost-piano beauty ("Shine On From The Heaven Above," "Adventure In Light"). Heavily impressive, and a brave pearl-dive into even more personal waters for the Inca Ore lifeforce. LPs come in jackets with art by Saelens, plus a full-color insert. Edition of 500 (40 on clear ocean-water vinyl, 180 on marbled blue/white, 280 on black)."
*Kawabata Makoto - Farewell Kiss After Rain CDR $13.99 (Reverb Worship)
"This is Makoto's second release for Reverb Worship.Recorded at Acid Mothers Temple in August 2009."Farewell Kiss After Rain" contains two long tracks and clocks in at almost 55 minutes. Both tracks feature acoustic and electric guitars.Opening with the title track with a lovely repeating acoustic folky guitar theme. The second track "Bells Of Doomed Love" is much darker with a repetative humming, buzzing drone and various chiming notes. The cdr is available in an edition of 100 hand numbered copies with insert in a white card sleeve. Each cover is unique and has been paint rollered in a selection of different colours."
Makoto Kawabata - Under Your Moonshine LP $22.99 (QBICO)
Makoto Kawabata- electric guitar (with no overdubbing) recorded around 2003/4. Pressed on black vinyl - artwork by Troglosound. "The last Makoto Kawabata release for qbico ! and strange enough Makoto told me that this was his last solo guitar rec. with no overdubs. he gave to me this special solo a while ago, maybe 2003/4... i waited for the right moment to release it, just before the closure of qbico, it all started with him..."
*Stefan Kushima - Magnetic Levitation cassette $9.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"Stefan Kushima keeps bending our minds with his consistently awesome sounds that seem to be developing to a higher plain with each release... On this incredible 40 minute 6 track wonder, Stefan seems to pushed his trademark droning bliss of his previous two Blackest Rainbows to a more honed and zoned trance like state. Totally stellar and psychedelic. The closer features totally bizarre vocals/mutters/moans/crooning by Didi Bruckmayr... Full colour octopus artwork by Philipp Hanich. Pro-dubbed cassettes."
Timothy Leary - Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out CD $10.99 (ESP-DISK')
"This CD release of Dr. Leary's "Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out" is the first ever reissue of the ESP-Disk' vinyl edition originally released in1966. This unadorned spoken word recording of the 60's icon, Timothy Leary ("the most dangerous man alive"), was recorded at the famous Millbrook, New York estate just before his famous residency was ended by repeated raids and arrests by G. Gordon Liddy. Though the album title, Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out, became a clichéd rallying cry for a whole generation, it was presented to the public here for the first time. In this document he presents his ideas on drugs, current events and cultural phenomena, with recollections of earlier experiences and experiments; all delivered in a straight ahead, quiet manner even though the content is downright subversive and confrontational. An absolute must for anyone interested in the 1960's or countercultural thinking of any era." Housed in digipak with liner notes.
*Little Skull - untitled 3" CDR $10.99
"A hush descends on the audience, the orchestra take up their instruments, the conductor taps his baton and then.....silence. A single dancer appears on stage. This is her accompaniment; the bowing of strings and the creaking of the boards, the trilling of reeds and the sighing of her breath, the pulse of the percussion and the throb of her heart. The sound of a maudlin farewell, or a triumphant swansong?" The cdr comes in a 3-D box depicting a dancer of stage, which is itself housed in another box. These are all handmade by myself." - Dean Brown. Only 1 copy available.
Samara Lubelski - Future Slip LP $14.99 (Ecstatic Peace)
"Samara Lubelski's 5th solo LP Future Slip serves up a gorgeous and friendly collection of bittersweet melodies, sinister basslines, gestural Polaroid lyrics, and spot-on drumming- garnished with sprigs of fuzz, paired with a guitar Riesling. It is a record of knowledge and innocence, of truth and fairytale, of wonder and clarity. Envision France Gall performing the songs of Sterling Morrison and Mo Tucker with Ralph Molina on drums. The show is at a loft across Bowery from CBGB's and the only person in the audience at soundcheck is Jandek, cross-legged in the middle of the floor. Produced by Thurston Moore. Our story is already in progress as of the late '90s. NYC native Lubelski's howling, droning/pizzicato/Psycho violin rides atop Neu! inspired beats and alongside budget guitar arpegiations in the group Hall of Fame -- a band excellently obsessed with the second Red Krayola LP, Gamelan orchestras, and amassing bewildering piles of equipment and cables onstage. Occasionally she picks up the guitar and sings a 'proper' song, though it is only partly discernable among the rumble and flicker. Like some sort of two-way prism, all of the components of what would eventually be called the New Weird America passed through the Hall of Fame/Tower Recordings bottleneck in New York. The beardo folk, the freeform improvisation, the Krautrock, heavy psych, 20th century avant-garde, ethnographic field recordings, the Godz, the Fugs. This rainbow of influences was all turned into a single blistering white light on free Monday nights at the Cooler and gallery parties. The scattered releases made by Hall of Fame/Tower (the latter of which Samara joined) were glued to turntables from Atlanta to Brattleboro, and their influence passed outward into a variegation of likeminded fellow-travellers. After those bands ended, Samara made the crucial In the Valley album (with M.V. producing) and then announced she was going to make a pop record. Samara found a working method that she continues with to this day: Cutting basics in her second home of Stuttgart, Germany with members of psych-freakers Metabolismus and bringing the tracks back to New York to collaborate with her U.S. cronies, which this time includes PG Six, Helen Rush, Steve Shelley, Willie Lane, Nicolas Vernhes, Werner Notzel, Moritz Finkebiner, and Thilio Kuhn. In 2007 longtime fan Thurston Moore recruited Samara and her violin skillz for his Trees Outside the Academy album and tour. Familiar with the solo work, Thurston wanted to hear a new type of record from her: more confident, bolder. He offered an Ecstatic Peace! release if he was allowed to produce. Samara poached drummer Steve Shelley for her band, adding the missing backbeat to a swarm of overdubs. Thurston produced the mix sessions; lying sick on the couch calling out for more and more elements to be louder until a wonderfully aerodynamic version of the songs flew forth. And here is the result: Future Slip is a worldly record, a record which offers 'a taste of the new dimension' but warns of 'guru bummers'. To a sunny day it adds the shadows which allow the perception of depth. On a rainy day it offers a selection of cakes. Anyone who does not dig this record deserves our pity, as they know nothing about the joy or sadness of life." - label. Includes glossy insert.

Majutsu no Niwa - At the End of Summer CD $15.99 (There)
"Majutsu no Niwa is the new psychedelic rock band which Rinji Fukuoka of OVERHANG PARTY which stopped the activity at the beginning of 2008 leads. This album extracted from live show in the last year have variety, from deep song and more vivid rock instrumental to heavy feedback drone."
Donald Miller Trio - Here Below LP $13.99 (Klang Industries)
"Those of you lucky enough to spot Borbetomagus guitarist Donald Miller stepping out with Michael Schumacher on last year's Flood CD (Warpodisc) should have an idea about the kind of dream onslaught they can unleash. On this, the first release from the trio, Miller and Schumacher are joined by Charles Curtis in a live recording that catches them channeling their LaMonte Young associations into an entire alternate universe of stupefying beauty. But don't take our word for it... Bananafish would like you to know that it's "frickin' dyno... a live recording of Miller, Schumacher and Curtis suffocating underneath their own slumber of mucus and down. Three cheers for gargantuan deep-sea geese laying luminous eggs like bathospheric fax machines and tremendous moans fusing and dividing as if transmitting through a poly-faceted eyeball!" And Bruce Russell, writing in Opprobrium Online calls it "something to knock me off my perch. This LP is, quite simply, a bloody cracker.... Great recording, brilliant playing, another group that deserves instant fame..." And you just don't get that type of press everyday..." - label. Edition of 500 copies - nearly sold out.

Morley, My Cat Is An Alien, Ponzini, Ranaldo - Live @ Sensational Fix LP $14.99 (Starlight Furn. Co.)
"On June 17, 2008, the exhibition SONIC YOUTH etc.: Sensational Fix opened at LiFE in Saint-Nazaire, France, with a focus on their multi-disciplinary activities since 1981-collaborations with visual artists, filmmakers, designers, and musicians, as well as other works selected by the band. As part of the exhibition project, MY CAT IS AN ALIEN performed on stage with their long-time collaborator RAMONA PONZINI (PAINTING PETALS ON PLANET GHOST, BLACK MAGIC DISCO, Z'EV) singing Japanese, MICHAEL MORLEY of New Zealand's free noise band DEAD C, and LEE RANALDO of Sonic Youth. As a non-programmed live act, My Cat Is An Alien were supplied with two guitars from Sonic Youth's memorabilia wall of old guitars. No MCIAA show would be complete without sounds and beams generated by space toy guns, which they liberated from a local vintage toys warehouse (including a toy microphone for Roberto's vocals). Exhibition curator ROLAND GROENENBOOM recalls: "Michael Morley joined My Cat Is An Alien and Ramona Ponzini on stage for an improv piece. They were already way into developing [it] when, to their surprise, Lee Ranaldo picked up the guitar that Maurizio had left lying on stage when he moved on to playing percussion, [which only] made the already phenomenal sonic achievement even denser." Stills from the live footage shot by Groenenboom appear on the color insert. During the performance, Roberto shot photos with a Poloroid, which are front and back cover and labels of this LP. Side B features a collection of solo pieces by each of the five members of this extemporaneous ensemble. The perfect compendium to the unicity of this historical document. Limited edition vinyl-only release." - label.
*Joe Morris - Colorfield CD $12.99 (ESP-Disk)
"Joe Morris returns both to the guitar and to ESP-Disk' with the long form improvisation album 'Colorfield'. Much as the Colorfield painters simplified their compositions to evoke emotion with color, this trio emphasizes harmony, phrase, tempo and rhythm to electrifying results. Morris has been called the preeminent American jazz guitarist of our time, and, on 'Colorfield', his playing is characteristically intense, eloquent and melodic. The ranks of the trio are filled out by two of the most talented and skillful improvisors on the scene today, Steve Lantner and Luther Gray. Lantner's soloing on this recording has a state-of-the-art fluidity, energy, shape and dynamic variety while Gray, a master of the school of Free Music drumming, provides a constantly shifting but still driving groove that punctuates each moment with precision and invention. To see musicians of this caliber fuse their talents to create an original, dense and deeply contemplative work such as 'Colorfield' is extraordinary. As a result, the album gets better with every listen."
Nackt Insecten - A Site Specific Piece Of Avant-Garde Sound Art, Nothing To Be Worried About / Corridor Voyager (Quantum Odyssey II) 7" + CD $19.99 (Memoirs Of An Aesthete)
"Mr. Ruaradidh Sanachen has been getting a name for himself recently with his one man kosmische metal space ritual project Nackt Insecten, releasing plenty of limited edition "stuff" on a whole bunch of labels. In February 2008, as part of Glasgow's wonderful Instal festival, he was seen cradling a suitcase full of howling drone/noise aboard Glasgow's tube trains, and what a show it was - check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V5nrb6NLlo for a glimpse of the fun. As Nackt Insecten's relentless sounds meshed in perfectly with the locomotive rumblings, I thought to myself what a fine 7 inch single it would make. And sure enough, over a year later, here it is. An explanation made by a member of the "audience" to a worried fellow traveller provides the title. This package also contains a CD of new Nackt Insecten studio concoctions, a conceptual sequel to the recent LP on Blackest Rainbow Records. A real CD too, not a CDR! Cover art by Goldenlab's Fliss Horrocks and the inclusion of a genuine Glasgow tube train ticket completes this handsome package." Edition of 200 copies.
Ben Nash & Sophie Cooper - Alchemy CD $13.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"Recorded over a weekend back in the early months of 2009, here are 2 tracks of multi instrumental composition from Ben Nash and Sophie Cooper (CooperJones). The music here is truly beautiful, personally I think this is some of the best work to come from both Ben and Sophie so far. Total late night guitar meanderings blurred with a haze of deep churning scrapes from various instruments and layered drone bliss, creating 2 totally immersive and beautiful psychedelic drone. Some of the guitar playing here has a beautiful Loren Connors mets Ry Cooder Paris Texas era sound, and then when both Ben and Sophie reach for the gee-tars you have the beautiful mix of Ben's reflective electric blues and Sophie's purely relaxed acoustic musings, totally fantastic. This really has it down for me as something truly different, lets hope that they continue to record as this duo. I certainly cannot wait for more... Glass mastered pro pressed CD (not cdr) in pro printed full colour card wallet, one time pressing of 1000. Co-released with Ben's own Recollections of Knulp label."
Thee Oh Sees - Hounds of Foggy Notion LP+DVD $20.99 (HBSP)
"A brilliant live performance collaboration between Thee Oh Sees and video director Brian Lee Hughes. Filmed and recorded, not on stages, but at a variety of hauntingly scenic sites in and around San Francisco. The LP features the audio recordings, the DVD features the performances along with dozens of stories, jokes and whatnots filmed during their four-day filming adventure." - Revolver
Om - God Is Good LP $17.99 (Drag City)
'God Is Good' is the fourth album from the indomitable OM since their formation in 2001. It is their first new record in two years. OM albums are rituals, personal convictions transcripted into verse. Playing the music is visceral, emotional, a catharsis of soul and spirit. As ever, dynamic relationships and the slow building of mood are attenuations that shape the structures of 'God Is Good'. With careful microscopic increase, the energy grows through the four songs, leading towards moments that one could interpret asŠ Revelation? Oblivion? Awakening? OM are part of a community of musicians and thinkers whose influence only grows: Current 93, Six Organs Of Admittance, Lichens, Sir Richard Bishop, Alpha & Omega and Grails."

Pelt - A Stone for Angus Maclise LP $15.99
"Two side-long slices recorded at the sessions that produced Dauphin Elegies and aimed in a moonward arc over the ridge. The densest recorded exploration of the duo harmonium lineup to date." - Klang.
*Pine Smoke Lodge - Cranberry Horn cassette $9.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"Excellent new cassette from this eerie drone act from Portland, Maine that there seems to be very little information on. This four track 60 minute beast takes you one dark earthy drone excursions into bleak trip-outs of lord knows what. Very dark and mystical, and probably one of the most interesting drone acts i've heard in quite some time. Pro dubbed cassettes with stark black and white woodland cover art. Edition of 80."
Erica Pomerance - You Used To Think CD $10.99 (ESP-DISK)
"Erica Pomerance is a Canadian documentary film maker, poet and singer songwriter. In December, 1968, she assembled a diverse group of musicians to record her debut album, with engineering by Onno Scholtze. The late Trevor Koehler played alto sax. Gail Pollard, now also deceased, played flute. Dion Grody, Lanny Brooks and Craig Justen, of Octopus fame, assisted. Billy Mitchel, the legendary guitar virtuoso, Don Coopersmith, Ron Price on lead guitar, Richie Heissler on rhythm guitar, and Tom Moore on flute, an eclectic mix of classical, improvisational, folk and rock musicians." "You Used To Think is one of those rarities of pure inspiration that rates up there with first platters by the MC5, Stooges, Fugs, Velvet Underground, Silver Apples, Godz, Pearls Before Swine, etc... a classic '68 underground album: a collage of fucked-up eastern ragas, jazz, and atonal folk rock, delivered in a beautiful, raspy, feverish, drug-induced howl, featuring the poetry and singular voice of Erica Pomerance. ESP produced more than its share of outsider visions and here was an album more like a situation, that peeked inside and outside the bullcrap of the music world and the various genres it endlessly pumps out." - DIMMU BORGHILD.
*Revolutionary Ensemble - Vietnam CD $12.99 (ESP-Disk)
"Debut recording by one of the classic avant-garde groups: the Revolutionary Ensemble. Featuring violinist Leroy Jenkins (formerly a member of the AACM), bassist Sirone and percussionist Jerome Cooper, the group was an early example of chamber music within the avant-garde format, one that emphasized subtlety within its instrumentation (string instruments instead of saxophones) and compositions. The band existed primarily from 1971-1977, building a worldwide reputation as one of the premier avant-garde groups. "Vietnam" was the group's first recording."
*Robedoor - Raiders LP $12.99 (Not Not Fun)
"Following their 2008 East Coast tour with Woods and Pocahaunted the Robedoor agenda has mainly been: hibernating in the City Terrace zone above east LA, adding a drummer/modular synth dealer, and letting the smoke rise. Raiders is the first RBDR LP since 2008's Endlessly Blazing and is the result of almost six months of slow-burn transformative tape machine meditation helmed by Mr. Ged Gengras. Bummed guitars, loner drone tones, low caverns of reverbed drums and rumble, echo dislocation, and dead voices cascade down into the isolated highways. Song modes are carved out and then left to rot. Features early trio live set staples like "Indo Shadow" and "The Downcast Eye." You can't stick your hand in the same black river twice. Change or be changed. LPs in jackets with cover photo by Caitlin C. Mitchell. Edition of 500 (250 on marbled grey, 250 on black)."
*Sachiko - zUnya CD $14.99 (Musik Atlach)
"Sachiko is Japanese voice performer(ex Kousokuya, Overhang Party). She released 1st album ' You Never Aone For...'in 2006. The sound is based on a voice and electronics, she produces fantastic drone and noise by the sound on sound. Her ritual psychedelic drone guides listener to quiet Great Beyond in the time. This album is live recording played in summer, 2008. This is different from studio albums which is rich in the variety, her voice is modest expression and she concentrates into performance of drone, she develops psychedelic sound concerning the organic and the hypnosis. She joins in the meditation drone unit 'Tangerine Dream Syndicate' that Fumio Kosakai leads, two voices shamanic duo 'VAVA KITORA' as other units."
Six Organs Of Admittance / Azul - split LP $22.99 (PSF)
"Stunning PSF vinyl-only release with Japanese obi-strip. Ben Chasny's prolific Six Organs Of Admittance wields a haunted, amorphous atmosphere of prickly acoustics and occasionally jarring electric guitar on side A's sidelong 'Furnace.' The flipside is a more structured affair, with the five songs by Usui Hiroyuki's Azul consisting of richly orchestrated psych folk, filled with violins, tabla, tambura and subdued vocals. Limited to 800 copies." - FE.
Steven R. Smith - Cities LP $14.99 (Immune)
"American multi-instrumentalist Steven R. Smith has been releasing a steady stream of solo records for well over a decade as well as playing in various improvisational groups including Thuja, Hala Strana, and most recently Ulaan Khol. This music has ranged from sparse solo guitar improvisations to Hala Strana's reworkings of Eastern European traditional folk tunes to the dense, psychedelic fuzz guitar workouts of Ulaan Khol. On his latest full-length solo release, Cities, Smith combines the composed with the improvisational and the result is a beautiful and desolate collection of songs evoking a crumbling landscape reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road or the films of Hungarian director Béla Tarr. Cities was recorded in Smith's Worstward Studios on all analog equipment and features a wide variety of instrumentation including fretted spike fiddle, baritone psaltery, electric and nylon stringed guitars, cello, melodica, electric piano and organ. Musically, Smith's work over the years could be summed up as a struggle to contain a series of opposites: light and darkness, sorrow and joy, despair and hope. It is this balance, or at least the effort to create or maintain this balance, that informs Cities as well. Smith has recorded for numerous labels including Important Records, Catsup Plate, Soft Abuse, Emperor Jones, Last Visible Dog, Jewelled Antler, Digitalis and Darla. Cities is his first release for Immune Recordings."
Spiral Joy Band - Pleasure is the Headlight double LP $24.99 (Uzu Audio)
"Featuring two members of the most excellent Pelt, the Spiral Joy Band swells forth from Blacksburg, Virginia, with a follow up to their album "Wake of the Dying Sun King" on VHF Records. This double LP set features recordings from two eras of the Spiral Joy Band. The first is from 2005, the second 2007. A cacophony of gongs, bowls, bells, chimes, electronics, fiddle, bowed cymbals, esraj, harmonium, srutiand electronics played by Mikel Dimmik, Michael Gangloff, Amy Shea and Nathan Bowles, along with a guest or two, here and there. "Pleasure Is The Headlight" features 5 tracks in total spread over 4 sides. The first three being long trance inducing meditations recorded in Blacksburg and Ironto. The fourth side features unique recordings, the first is a solo wind chime performance recorded in a gift shop, featuring the murmur of confused patrons and what is likely some truly wonderful AM radio piped in over the store's stereo system. The second track is a slow hazy day at the beach, with gongs, seagulls, and the gentle roar of the ocean. Pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and limited to about 400 copies, this album comes in a custom gatefold jacket with letter pressed cover art and silk screened inside art. The first 70 copies will be available in a variant cover featuring the same art as the regular version, but a different combination of paper and ink." Restock expected soon.
*Sun Araw (featuring Matthew Lessner) - In Orbit c30 cassette $7.99 (Stunned)
"Sun Araw's Cameron Stallones & filmmaker Matthew Lessner are longtime Stunned brothers that go back with us before the music, the tours, the films, the label, you name it. As tireless globetrotters, both have spent the last year beaming their respective good messages far and wide to the delight of audio aficionados & visual art subversives alike. Marking a Second phase in all our geosynchronous friendships, 'In Orbit' finds these dudes collaborating on ascendant planes of high mind where outer Los Angeles and Inner Space bisect. Deep dubby howlin, Farfisa organ hang-gliding, gooey tempos, and trademark shimmering 'Araw-guitar licks are the hybridized fruits harvested here. Along with your candy, flip this tape as needed. Happy to say, there's no limit to the number of orbits it can (and will) make through your stereo and ours. Special edition of 222 pro-dubbed & imprinted c30s with jcard design by Cameron."
Sun Ra - The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra Volume One LP $17.99 (ESP-Disk)
"The astonishing sessions that went light years beyond "free jazz" improvisation to create a music of deeply felt, explosive and gentle gesture made from sound itself without reference to previous notions of melody or harmony are now reissued on 180 gram vinyl with Sun Ra's original, self-created cover art. Recorded by Richard Alderson on April 20, 1965, this set of tunes finds Sun Ra breaking ground by using synthesizers and having the Arkestra musicians double on percussion."
Sun Ra - Featuring Pharoah Sanders & Black Harold CD $10.99 (ESP-DISK)
"In 1964, Sun Ra asked the young tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders to join him, while Arkestra mainstay John Gilmore was busy working with Paul Bley, Andrew Hill, and Art Blakey. Before the recording's original release in 1976, Sun Ra stated: "It should be very interesting to the world to show what the pre-Coltrane Pharoah Sanders was like." Also appearing on "Featuring Pharoah Sanders & Black Harold" is the little-heard flautist, Black Harold (Harold Murray), who takes the lead on the track "The Voice of Pan," continuing into "Dawn over Israel." Bassist Alan Silva (ESP 1091) also does some fine bass work on the release. "Featuring Pharoah Sanders & Black Harold" is notable not only for its unique lineup, but also for the first known recording of the composition "The Shadow World," here titled "The World Shadow," which was featured on later Arkestra albums. This release contains an additional 45 minutes and 36 seconds of unreleased material." "This album is a curiosity not just because of the presence of Pharoah Sanders, but because of the absence of John Gilmore...After a noisy intro, Alan Silva does some nice arco playing before Sun Ra sets a piano vamp for the horns. There's tons of percussion and some great space voice courtesy of Art Jenkins, and they slip briefly into "Rocket Number Nine." "The Voice of Pan" is a feature for Black Harold where he is either doing a Rahsaan Roland Kirk thing on flute or in a serious mind meld with Art Jenkins' space voice. Either way, it's pretty wild...." - Sean Westergaard
Sun Ra - The Immeasurable Equation Book $79.99 (Waitawhile)
"The second book documenting the work of Sun Ra to be published by Harmut Geerken on this private press, Waitawhile. The last one, Sun Ra: Omniverse was one merely of the most coveted cultural documents of the last decade. This new one features the collected writings of Ra for the first time in one place, in extremely impressive fashion. "The collected poetry and prose compiled and edited by James L. Wolf and Hartmut Geerken. With introductions and essays by James L. Wolf, Hartmut Geerken, Sigrid Hauff, Klaus Detlef Thiel and Brent Edwards. Hardcover. Private print." 530 pages; limited availability." 2005 release.
*Tropa Macaca - Sensacao Do Principio LP $14.99 (Siltbreeze)
"Sensacao Do Principio is the third release proper from Portuguese experimental duo Tropa Macaca and their first with an American label. Their previous efforts on Ruby Red and Qbico were magnificent (though hard to find) efforts of blotted, aural sci-fi codifications somewhere between Anar Band and Blues Control. The two-track full-length continues their foray into post-psychedelic instrumental morphine, where Moolah's LP and Pink Floyd's "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict" function as templates for the greater good. In other words, you gotta hear if for yourself. Limited edition of 500 copies." - Revolver
*Robert Turman & Aaron Dilloway - Blizzard CD $9.99 (Hanson)
"Collaboration between myself and ROBERT TURMAN (ex-NON, Z.O. Voider). Recorded in January 2009 during a horrible Ohio snowstorm which delayed one of my more recent moves...I was stuck in a freezing house with everything I owned in boxes..Night before I'm about to move...INSANE SNOWSTORM HITS....(If I remember correctly it was the same one that TOTALED AND STRANDED THE HAIR POLICE!)...drunk and missing my wife and kid who had left for Michigan a week earlier, I decided to camp out over at Turman's for a few days...On my insane drive a whopping 3 blocks away... my truck breaks down... TOTAL MISERY... Once I got there I settled in for a few days of late night recording. Myself on synthesizer and tape delays and Turman on tapes and effects. Very minimal, very slow, very cold. Frozen and stuck in the snow. Jewel Case CD w/ white tray. Edition of 500 copies in jewel case w/ white tray." - Aaron Dilloway.
*Charles Tyler - The Charles Tyler Ensemble CD $12.99 (ESP-Disk)
"Charles Tyler, from Albert Ayler's band, makes a startling statement on his debut solo record. His group, featuring an unusual instrumentation of cello, bass, drums, orchestra vibes, and saxophone, plays through his original compositions and showcases some heated solos. Although primarily known as a baritone sax player, Charles Tyler is featured on alto sax, yet his sound and concept are fully evident on this record. The session is rich with imagination, and added to the dimension of musicians who would become the roster of ESP-Disk."
*Uton - White Light CDR $12.99 (Memoirs of an Aesthete)
"A 2006 release of violin frenzy by this noted Finnish warlock. Fine stuff, last few copies unearthed and again available." Edition of 100 copies.
V/A - Open Strings: 1920s Middle Eastern Recordings - New Responses double CD $20.99 (Honest Jon's Records)
"This is the fourth release in Honest Jon's series of albums exploring the earliest 78s held in the EMI Hayes Archive. Open Strings is a dazzling selection of virtuoso string-playing from Egypt, Iran, Iraq and Turkey, all recorded in the 1920s, and pretty much unheard ever since. In addition, Open Strings includes a disc of newly-commissioned responses to the themes in this music by underground luminaries committed to the drone such as Sir Richard Bishop of legendary Sun City Girls renown, West Coast psych-guitarist Ben Chasny aka Six Organs Of Admittance, UK folk-guitarist Rick Tomlinson aka Voice Of The Seven Woods, and Western Massachusetts' raga-inspired duo, MV And EE. From resonant bow-drone, to frenetic fret-runs to delicate, circular acoustic musings to sitar fever-dreams, no matter the nationality, there is a resonance and truth in this music that is ancient, timeless and transcendent. Scorchers past and present, every one. Other artists include: Micah Blue Smaldone, Michael Flower, Charlie Parr, Bruce Licher, Paul Metzger, and Steffen Basho-Junghans."
V/A - Shadow Music of Thailand CD $15.99 (Sublime Frequencies)
This is the CD issue of the sold-out limited LP vinyl release from 2008. "Shadow Music" was a broad term given to the Thai guitar pop movement of the 1960s and the groups that came out of it -- all under the profound influence of early Western rock and roll. British instrumental wonders The Shadows (as in Cliff Richards & The Shadows) were the origin of the genre's title -- also coined "Wong Shadow" or early Thai "string" music. Shadow records were often marketed as "Thai Modernized Music," which it was in the truest sense. Traditional Thai melodies were given the Shadow treatment -- incorporating rock, surf, a-go-go, exotica, soul, blues, Latin and other worldly styles of the times. Inventive compositions and instrumental genius meet the occasional odd vocal arrangement and the results range from plaintive guitar and organ-driven lullabies to full-blown electric garage folk-psychedelia! Featured on this collection are a handful of the leading recorded artists from the time; P.M. Pocket Music, The Son of P.M., P.M.7, Jupiter, and Johnny Guitar. Throughout the 1960s, these groups forged a unique and highly self-referential Thai sound. Includes an 8-page insert featuring the gorgeous original Thai Shadow LP artwork and liner notes by compiler Mark Gergis." - FE
V/A - Siamese Soul: Thai Pop Spectacular 1960s-1980s Vol. 2 CD $15.99 (Sublime Frequencies)
This second volume in the Thai Pop Spectacular series brings together regional artists from across Thailand. Some were modest pop players of their time, while others were major stars. Siamese Soul features 1970s hard-grooved roots funk, hypnotic Luk Thung tracks from the Northeastern Thai countryside, 1960s rock & roll and 1980s groove anomalies. All cuts come heavily laced with electric organs and guitar, thick horn sections, the traditional khaen, driving bass and stunning vocal performances with a richness that can easily be called Thai soul music of the highest order. These creative sounds formed by hybrids with Western instrumentation and genres, result in an incredibly dynamic music that is distinctively Thai. Selected from cassette tapes and vinyl found buried on bottom shelves in rural locales, these tracks serve as further evidence of a vital Thai pop scene that's been kept from Western ears for far too long. This CD comes with a 16-page booklet of amazing exclusive photos documenting the era with translated song titles and liner notes by Mark Gergis and Alan Bishop." - FE
*Vente de feu - Hébertisme 3" CDR $6.99 (self-released)
"Formed in 2008, Vente de feu («fire sale», literally) is an economically non-viable pulsation from Québec City. Concerned by chaotic forms and polluted ambiances, the band mainly works with an acoustic instrumentation (guitar, clarinet, double bass, drum), without however completely pushing aside the use of electronic devices. Vente de feu's curious sound blends the liberty of european free improv, the energy of free jazz and the sketchiness of no wave. Composed of 4 tracks (total lenght: 21 minutes), 'Hébertisme', is the debut album of the band."
Vibracathedral Orchestra / Infinite Light - split 7" $9.99 (Krayon Recordings)
"Vibracathedral drop straight into a heads down fully tranced narco-dust trail, with guitar-born fireflies leading the way through a never-changing backdrop heat haze of low-lying smoke-mist and earth-veined throb. Fx tweets and rattlesnake percussion shakes as mystic keyboard spirits blow in a weightless drift. The first cut from Infinite Light is a section lifted from a show featuring Mick Flower on guitar and organ and Pete Nolan jamming the traps, and its a full, free-rock, psych-out captured through a heavy veil of no-fi smog. By the sounds of this they must have blasted open the trans-dimensional portal to some out-of-time temple rituals. Part two is the opposite, exchanging blasted group workout for a solo piece of harmonic guitar vignettes wrapped around a falsetto vocal cadence fluctuating at the point of saturation. Art by Barry Dean, design by Mick Flower."
*Vodka Soap - Interpretation of 'The Initiation' CDR $9.99 (Pacific City Cassettes)
"An interpretation of Roberto Matta's painting, The Initiation"
*White Rainbow - New Clouds double LP $17.99 (Kranky)
"A few things have changed for Adam Forkner since his last White Rainbow album from 2007, Prism of Eternal Now. A national tour with fellow kranky heads Valet and Atlas Sound, and countless hours jamming with Portland avant-music collective Rob Walmart inspired him to hunker down and dig deeper into his personal vision of what head music can be. The success of Prism finally catapulted Forkner's White Rainbow project from the deep semi-obscure trenches of the west coast psychedelic/noise underground into the fickle arms of a slightly wider audience. In a perhaps misguided reaction to the ever-widening trend of musicians trading in a pound of adventurousness for an ounce of 'accessibility,' Forkner has turned White Rainbow into an even more spontaneous and open-ended musical project and has shaped this new album into a dense, lengthy exploration of the relationship between hypnotic, circular, fourth-world drum rhythms, acid-boogie guitar, and drifting sheets of fuzzy psychedelic drone. The tracks on New Clouds are a tug-of-war between stasis and change, the desire to meld the meditative effects of a near static drone with the uplifting trip of free-flowing compositions. Slowly melting fluorescent sunsets morph into drapes of psychedelic fog, rumbling over cacophonous rhythms." Housed in a gatefold sleeve - nice!
Xenis Emputae Travelling Band - The Pyrognomic Glass LP + chapbook $19.99 (Memoirs Of An Aesthete)
"The Xenis Emputae Travelling Band is Mr. Phil Legard of the hallowe'ed borough of Yorkshire, England. He has been hard at work since 2001 making psychedelic folk-concrete inspired by the psychogeography and mythology of various secret regions of the British countryside. XETB has released plenty of CDRs and tapes over the years (all limited editions, long sold out etc etc) but, aside from one track on a Cold Spring Records CD, nothing at all in a "posh" format - something we at Memoirs thought we should do something about. We are, after all, classy folks and that. Mr. Legard is also a writer on various occult and esoteric matters, his most recent publication being a contribution to the new translation of "The Consecrated Little Book Of Black Venus" (Waning Moon Publications). He also has several other music projects, most notably The Neon Death Slittes and Pneumonic Consort. He is also, for his many sins, a frequent collaborator in Ashtray Navigations. "The Pyrognomic Glass" was originally released by us as a ltd. ed CDR back in 2005. By popular demand it is back, this time on vinyl, and including "Abital - or Conferences with the Genii of Nocturnal and Diurnal Dew in vii Chapters", a beautifully-printed 28 page chapbook by Mr Legard, most profitable to students of Natural Philosophy. reviews of "The Pyrognomic Glass" (original CDR version): Few artists combine spiritual elements with that of nature like the UK-based Xenis Emputae Travelling Band. XETB is one Phil Legard, and his recent explorations into the aural spheres of the English countryside have been nothing short of spellbinding. Something archaic permeates from all his recordings, like they are from another century entirely. "The Pyrognomic Glass" is no exception. It is all these things and more and offers further insight into the mind and spirit of Phil Legard. "The Pyrognomic Glass" differs slightly from previous XETB releases in that it only has two tracks, both longform pieces. This new album is like an extended version of the 3" Legard released on his own Larkfall imprint, "A Selenographic Lens" (and in fact, I believe he has said this the follow-up to that EP). Legard thrives in the expanses of these lengthy pieces. The freedom that he finds within these expansive walls adds great depth to the proceedings. It is as if this music exists in the ether of the earth and Legard simply searches it out and plays it for the masses. "Abital" opens the set at just a shade over 14 minutes. Starting off with a wash of ethereal drones, this track moves through many different moods. These opening notes are the beginning of a new dawn. It's simplistic approach is the perfect way to begin. The real highlight of this piece, however, is when Legard breaks into song near the end. Again, we go with the simplicity theme - stripped down to the core. With gentle banjo plucks to guide him, Legard offers up ancient incantations, like a shaman summoning spirits. This is excellent. The way that this track seamlessly flows from one different moment to the next is quite impressive. "Abital" is one of XETB's finest moments ever. The album continues its fine form with the 20 minute epic, "Rorasa." This is another haunting piece that drones its way through the evening hours right up to dusk. It continues the theme of enchantment, taking the listener through the primeval wood into the center of time. Such a journey transcends any and all aural boundaries and XETB takes us to a far off place that most couldn't even dream up. This is true sonic wizardry 8/10." - Brad Rose, Foxy Digitalis. Edition of 250 copies.
*Yoga - Megafauna LP + download coupon $14.99 (Holy Mountain)
"Understand this: Yoga dispenses a sinister frailty of howling swells in hissing static that combusts into crawling shock heaps, to the effect of Mayhem performing Twin Peaks incidentals in a prairie recorded by The KLF. A brief description casts them as black metal's answer to Throbbing Gristle. The texture-based rendering of their compositions sails them on a strange sea between song and sound effect as it bobs along the waves like a dead man's bottled message. Aspects of Goblin rehearsals in dead hills is interrupted as Monster Zero carves mountain sides with lightning breath. Oscillating leads pummel into churning riffs as if "Caledonia" was performed in an echo chamber near Lodi, New Jersey. The extrinsic properties of this work may result in disambiguation." - Revolver
*Michael Yonkers & Plastic Crimewave Sound - Bleed Out LP $12.99 (Spiral Staircase)
After some 5 years in the making, at last the first official collaboration between Chicago acid-punks Plastic Crimewave Sound and Minneapolis noise/folk guitar legend Michael Yonkers has come to fruition! Sir Yonkers should need no introduction, as his godly unreleased-in-the-day album, "Microminiature Love" blew the doors off anyone who was lucky enough to pick up the DeStijl LP or Sub Pop CD reissue. This seriously ahead-of-it's-time, pre/post-punk, jittery noise-rock sounds as fresh today as when it was recorded back in 1968. Yonkers 70s folk LPs also continue to impress (and to be reissued) with their mix of homemade electronics and poignant melodies. More recently, Michael has returned to and refined his buzzing fuzz guitar sound to new heights, with
his tuneful-yet-bellowing voice often adorning the skree. Numerous releases, from LPs to CDRs, over the past decade have re-established Yonkers as one of the world's most distinct and uncompromising underground voices. Plastic Crimewave Sound have been bringing it since 2001, with their scuzzed out brand of free-fest psychedelia, putting the "rock" back into spacerock on some 4 Lps, split releases, and too many other appearances to mention. Collaborations/tours with Oneida, Comets on Fire, Ya Ho Wha 13, Simply Saucer, and countless others have spread their bad trip gospel. Leader Plastic Crimewave also is the brainchild of the acclaimed Galactic Zoo Dossier Magazine published by Drag City. The sessions for this unearthly collaboration began back in 2004, and a seemingly perfect one it is--driving guitars, reverbed static, rippling electronics, and Yonkers' urgent vocals meld into a freaked-out stew that truly bleeds out of one's speakers. Side 2 of the LP is perhaps even more fierce, as it captures PCWS and Yonkers' first live appearance together at the first Million Tongues festival at the Empty Bottle in Chicago, also in 04. Clocking in at nearly the 20 minute mark, this shredding bit of synapse-frying abandon is simply titled "No Urge," and was recorded by the late Malachai Ritscher. Don't miss out on this limited LP in an edition of 500, sure to go as fast as Yonkers and PCWS's other now out-of- print releases."
FORTHCOMING TITLES EXPECTED IN STOCK SOON
ALGA MARGHEN - expected within 2 weeks
*Takis - Pendules magnétiques / Le siècle de Kafka LP $25.99 (Alga Marghen)
"Alga Marghen proudly presents one of the highlights of his catalogue, an exclusive LP edition with the recordings of Takis electro-magnetic sculptures. Takis is the originator of this new approach to the musicality of sound, which consists in laying bare the repetitious structure of musical form and its functional derivation, thus rejecting the symbolism of representation.Takis was born in 1925 in Athens. Preferring, as a matter of principle, to teach himself rather study in a institution, he left Greece in 1954 and lived as a citizen of the world, traveling through Europe and the USA. Some of his earliest manifestations in the 1940s consisted of explosions carried out in open places. His first "Signals" date from 1954: they were rods consisting of piano wires which created musical vibrations as they stuck against each other in the wind. In fact they constituted the first appearance in his work and in contemporary art history of a form of musical expression in which sounds are called forth in an un-programmed way, owing to the action of natural forces. In 1961 Takis meets Marcel Duchamp in New York. Duchamp's perpetual moving bicycle wheels inspired Takis' hydromagnetic sculptures. In the period between 1964 and 1965 Takis conceives his "Pendules magnètiques" and constructs his first Sound Sculptures. After the exhibition of Takis titled "Electro-musical relief" at Indica Gallery in London in 1966, the New Scientist magazine in an article entitled "The sounds of tomorrow" commented that Takis, Iannis Xenakis and John Cage are the most promising musicians of the century. Takis' "Pendules magnétiques" are based on the simple concept of using magnetic waves caused by electricity as a means to activate repeated musical sounds: the latter are to be heard every time a needle strikes a string, when attracted by a magnet. The sounds reproduced in this edition were recorded in 1993 by Samon Takahashi at Takis' retrospective at Jeu de Paume in Paris. Takis participates in 1984 at the exhibition titled "The Century of Kafka" at Centre Pompidou in Paris and sound work with the same title is also reproduced on this LP edition. As an artist he seeks a natural origin for the construction of sound, and in particular that origin which is furthest removed from the artist's arbitrary decision. For about forty years now, it has been Takis's purpose to investigate language as a natural function, conceiving function as a form of work. Furthermore, he has broken down the frontiers between sculpture and music in a number of pieces which can only be read by identifying their functionalism as structured units, with their morphological, visual and acoustic aspects. Edition limited to 380 copies with full-color sleeve, printed inner-sleeve reproducing a testimony by Marcel Duchamp and insert with photos of the "Pendules magnètiques" and a testimony by William Burroughs."

Bobby Beausoleil - The Lucifer Rising Suite 4xLP BOX $64.99 (AJNA)
"Now, for the first time, all of the music composed for the soundtrack project has been compiled into a single public release. The Lucifer Rising Suite begins with the 1967 version of the soundtrack and continues through a logical sequence of the recordings made in the years spanning 1976-79. With respect to the latter, the original master tapes were mined for music that had not been heard by anyone in nearly three decades. The newly unearthed recordings were then restored, cleaned up and combined with those previously released to make the anthology as complete as possible. The compositions that comprise the Suite are sequenced in an order that tells a story, after a fashion. It is a story that may be impossible to tell in a strictly literary manner, one that -- like a mirror's reflection into another -- is both personal and allegorical. A complete anthology of the recordings made for the Lucifer Rising motion picture soundtrack by Bobby Beausoleil with The Freedom Orchestra and The Magick Powerhouse Of Oz. This fully authorized and definitive release will include: - Remastered recordings spanning 11 years, from the '67 recording to the Tracy Prison recordings of '78. - 4 full-length LPs worth of Lucifer Rising material with half being never-before-heard sessions personally selected by Bobby BeauSoleil. - 9 new pieces of art from Bobby: 8 record sleeve panels and one 2' x 3' poster. - 2 posters: one by Bobby BeauSoleil and one by Dennis Dread. - A much-extended version of the 'Fallen Angel Blues' piece by Bobby that originally appeared in the Kenneth Anger DVD set. - 'Hymns to the Solar Temple' -- impressions on a visit to Bobby at the Oregon Correctional Facility in Pendleton, Oregon by Dennis Dread. - The Saga of a Soundtrack by Michael Moynihan. - Art from Dennis Dread for the back of the LP box, also to be included as a 2' x 2' poster. - Art from Dennis Dread for the front lid of the box which will provide a window into the works of Bobby's to be found within. Remastered by Robert Ferbrache, well known for his work with Blood Axis, 16 Horsepower and others. All art has been created specifically for this release." LAST AVAILABLE COPIES.

"New duo recordings, new raw horrible minimal instruments, recorded in the late evening, together in like minded waves of pulsing and cut up tangles of personal electric machine speak. Lots of short tracks, all strange. IF this was a poem inside the pages of the amazing NOT ONE OF US dark fiction zine from the 80s, a "manuscript" poem would read like this:
"ONION MAN"
Skin Unveiling
like ribbons of a mummy
he scrawls his poems
of an inner self
that still glows
like the light of a lampshade
delaminating page by page
in the lazaretto.......
either that or the illustration to BALD MOUNTAIN DEMON....amazing zine...Color covers, edition of 40."

*Starving Weirdos with Tom Carter & Shawn McMillen - Live At The Accident LP $ (Blackest Rainbow)
"Crazy 3-way collaboration from some of America's best underground musicians... Charalambides Tom Carter is joined by Shawn McMillen, sometimes member of Warmer Milks and Ash Castles On The Ghost Coast, with he added power of Starving Weirdos. This two tracked collaboration has been around since 2007 and it landed in my mailbox a few months back, and man, its a real beauty. Side A is a total hypnotic slice of ravaged drone, the four musicians seamlessly blend their own styles of underground bliss outs to sheer perfection. Side B opens with a crazy loop of applause, waving back and forth with a growing repetative plug-in to new opening it up to create new levels of total sonic weirdness. Slow shimmering black chasms engulf the positivity until its awash with lo-fi scrapes and buzzing electrical nightmare. The loop eventually drops back in with total far gone chimes, jingling away at acid burnt psychedelic keys and a thundering bass loop. A totally bizarre jam, which just opens more potential ventures up for these artists, hopefully we'll see more from this collaborative team soon... Limited to 400 in pro-printed wraparound sleeves."
*Twinsistermoon - The Hollow Mountain CD $15.99 (Blackest Rainbow)
"Twinsistermoon is the solo project of Mehdi Ameziane of Natural Snow Buildings. The Hollow Mountain was originally issued by Dull Knife Records in 2009 as an LP limited to only 105 copies, unsurprisingly it sold out in a matter of hours. Widely regarded by many Natural Snow Buildings fans as one of the best releases from their camp, this reissue has been remastered by Ben Nash, includes new artwork, and brand new unreleased material. The album has a beautiful earthy lo-fi feeling throughout which perfectly compliments its short and sweet folk songs, and occasional wanderings into psychedelic drone ambience. This is an album that really is totally beautiful and probably one of my favorites from Mehdi. The CD is packaged in a square artwork booklet and a pro-printed card wallet showcasing the superb original artwork from the LP sleeve. Limited to 1000 copies."
BROKEN RESEARCH
*Chris Dadge - I'd Drive Your Ass Across the World, If I Had To CDR $9.99 (Brokenresearch)
"There is a reason that drums are typically used in a certain way, in certain settings; been a hundred or so years since Edison [or de Martinville if yr so inclined] and few solo percussion records worth mentioning. Do the math. I'd Drive Your Ass Across The World, If I Had To is a reboot of a cd-r that Dadge himself put out and sent in to brokenresearch and we we're really taken. It is a totally facile use of rudiments, sound and electronics. It's clear, articulate and undeniably inventive. When we first cked it it had a stamp of Cyrille's "What About"-which when mentioned to Dadge he readily admitted to owning and knowing. Over time that stamp has faded and what is left is one of the better improvised percussion records ever released. Worlds ahead of most of any "brainy" approach to drums and much more restrained and clear than George Stone acolytes and more temporal than the chest-beaters." Edition of 100 copies.
*Graveyards - Screwed + Chopped LP $14.99 (Brokenresearch)
"There are still so many people steady trippin' off the Futurists and trying to make it faster and louder but it does that on it's own. When Screw decided to upend the idea of time and how one can listen to time, shit slowed everything down and it made sense. Houston, the sprawl, the heat, the poverty. Detroit, the sprawl, the cold, the poverty. There is a kinship and affection between the ? speed, slo-mo, basement jazz and Houston's favorite codeine addict. This recording was made with tapes, test presses, outtakes, all played in real time against Graveboyz own post-cubist approach to Screw mixing us from, where else? The graveyard. Chopped up not slopped up. Chris Riggs adds his destroyed strings to the mix. Lp in cardboard screened sleeves." Edition of 200 copies.
Graveyards and Dead Machines - Machineyard in Soundworld LP $12.99 (Brokenresearch)
"Olson pulls 2xduty on this low-level lurk meltdown. The dream time goes 2 vs. 2 for a 1/8 speed that sounds. Like contact mic'd drifts of glaciers that make reverb seem like a concept developed by inuits this sound moves slower than slow and spotlight the intricacies of interaction afforded only between people have that particular Michigan approach. Tovah D-Day is in particularly rare form on this one processing everyone in the group and serving as the Lee Perry on this one." Edition of 200 copies - restock.
Mêlée w/ Joe Morris - Cloud Atlas Quartet LP $14.99 (Brokenresearch)
"Mêlée by default has become a terrain with which other musicians engage. At this point the trio has played with Greg Kelley on several occasions, John Dierker, Mike Khoury, and Aaron Siegel amongst others. To have Joe Morris come and push the mountains around a little is both exciting and terrifying. He's a premier guitarist, technician, improviser, professor and fire-starter. If ya ck his recent Wire Invisible Jukebox you can get a handle on the kind of absolutely practical intellectual approach he deals with. If ya listen to his absolutely fucking bananas 4CD duet set with Braxton you realize just how adventurous, skilled, strong and fearless he is as a musician, composer and improviser. Having the mug jump in and want to do a session like this is a beyond exciting and brings the kind of not-weak-as-pre-spinach-Popeye improvisation to a label that was started in part to continue the kind of music making that Joe Morris is fundamental to and has been fundamental in proposing. Lp in pro printed cover." Edition of 200 copies - restock.
*Psalm Alarm - Like Machine, Like Voice CDR $9.99 (Brokenresearch)
"Psalm Alarm is Zac Wallace of Sun Circle and Memorize the Sky, Hell and Bunny of Graveyards, Melee et al. and this go around Chris Riggs is marking territory on most of the cuts. Whereas previous PA recordings were acoustic drone, lost-in-the desert, snowblind white-outs this is a more interactive and relative approach. Though the direction towards static Michigan ragas is totally the first priority the shift of their once yearly meeting makes for an interesting look at how a group who are dedicated to each other's vocab can change their own by virtue of time and new interests and how that new interaction takes place. The change is substantial and what comes out is something much more beautiful and less noticeably aggressive in terms forcefulness of sound." Edition of 100 copies.
*Chris Riggs - Achievement Is It's Own Reward CDR $9.99 (Brokenresearch)
"Riggs is definitely fucking with the idea of what the Michigan scene can be. His tape label Holy Cheever Church has some of the best and most thoughtful cassettes coming out and being from Michigan he's a producer. His Draco re-release on Hanson got a few more mugs to know what he was up to but that's a small piece of the puzzle for someone who still actually play's the guitar like a guitar, can play the guitar but chooses to find out the way it can sound like and extremely fucked up 78' Honda Civic with asthma. His recordings are damaged and this is no exception. Achievement is the first in a series of recordings that explore the restriction of individual movements to fixed time lengths." Edition of 100 copies.
BUG INCISION
*Chris Dadge - The Tangled Woof of Fact CDR $8.99 (Bug Incision)
"Recorded to two tracks of a Tascam 246, fall 2008. Follow-up to 2006's I'd Drive Your Ass Across The World, If I Had To. Shorter tracks, much less contained than that album, though similar in its simplicity and intent. Second solo drums album from Dadge, who's played with Bent Spoon Duo, Raw Kites, Musk Cup, Eric Chenaux, Mats Gustafsson & Christian Munthe, and Peter Evans. Edition of 50 copies, color covers in plastic sleeves, insert."
*Lamp Chops - The Localization of Noise and Its Endowment with Form CDR $8.99 (Bug Incision)
"Four tracks of string-saturated improvisation from Toronto's Colin Fisher and Simeon Abbott. Both players are serious multi-instrumentalists, but this set features them exclusively on ghuzeng and prepared guitar, respectively. Sounds like what might've happened if Strange Strings had been more fully fleshed-out and stripped down. Recorded to cassette four-track by Aaron Leaney at Somewhere There in Toronto, late 2008. Edition of 50 copies, color covers in plastic sleeves, insert."
Part Wild Horses Mane on Both Sides - Memoirs of a Secret Metal Cave CDR $8.99 (Bug Incision)
"The duo of Pascal Nichols and Kelly Jones delivers another new slab of zoned duo improv. The latest chapter of their ongoing series of reconciliations of the flute/drums/electronics relationship comes out sounding like an beautifully mangled soundtrack to a Ducks Unlimited commercial or a garbled old videocassette of an '80s educational nature film. As has been noted in previous reviews of this duo, they make stunning use of a relatively basic setup, and it's a long ways away from those bizzarre Jarrett/Dejohnette jams on Ruta & Daitya. Edition of 64 copies, color covers in plastic sleeves, insert."
*Jack Wright/Ben Wright/Mike Pride/Nate Wooley - Tenterhooks CDR $8.99 (Bug Incision)
"This is a 2006 recording of a quartet featuring Jack Wright (saxes), Ben Wright (bass), Mike Pride (drums), and Nate Wooley (trumpet). The music is tightly coiled, coming across as an unsettled focusing and unfocusing of a variety of intersecting sounds and extended playing techniques. The players all possess masterful control of their instruments, and exhibit a fine sense of balance and pacing. Nobody overplays and the role(s) of background/foreground is constantly shifting, creating an uncluttered, thoughtful unfolding of events. Another fine slice of Wright and his ever-shifting company. Edition of 100 copies, color covers in plastic sleeves, insert."
CRIER DANS LES MUSEES - all titles coming back in stock again soon in small quantities. Be sure to pre-order to guarantee a copy.
*Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood - Hashram CDR $10.99 (Crier Dans Les Musees)
"They're back...Your favorite australian improv band was everywhere from 2004 to 2007. So many great releases out on digitalis, student of ducay, mymwly, root strata...And then a little break happened. Since a couple of months the collective has returned, mostly with 6majik9 records. Now we're proud to release the first botos cd-r for a long time. Recorded in 2008, team lead by drummer Michael Donnelly features Joel Stern on guitar for a free improv jam full of percussion and electricity, far beyond the psyche folk genre.
Artwork by Michael Donnelly.." - label. Edition of 100 copies.
*Enfer Boréal - Adn / Dna CDR $10.99 (Crier Dans Les Musees)
"After US Invasion, with releases on great labels such as Stunned Records, Housecraft, Peasant magik and Digitalis, Enfer Boreal is back home! One 40 min long track / jam recorded on September 2008, right after a half year asian trip. With his mind full of memories, voices, nature sounds, different languages, mountains, sea and everything met while travelling Maxime took his guitar and effects for this result. Single track do not mean monotoneous music : droney sounds and field recordings for the beginning, then haunted guitar improvisations, and band-like jam for the end. Handmade cover artwork by Anne Pilet (two different design available)." - label. Edition of 50 copies.
*Field Recordings from India / Nepal - s/t CDR $10.99 (Crier Dans Les Musees)
"Random recordings from 2008 made across India and Nepal...Everyday sounds, traditional music, religious ceremonies." - label. Edition of 60 copies.
*Field Recordings from Malaisia / Thailand / Cambodia - s/t CDR $10.99 (Crier Dans Les Musees)
"Also from 2008, birds singing, insects screaming, drums, children, pop music...." - label. Edition of 40 copies.
*High Wolf - Incapulco - CDR $10.99 (Crier Dans Les Musees)
"New Cdr only release. Random jams recorded after those releases you enjoyed (animal totem on Not Not Fun / gabon on Winged Sun / digital heaven on Stunned) . Expect some fuzzy wah guitars, trancey keyboards, delayed vocals, groovy percussions and jungle spirit! Artwork by Skyler Hitchcox." Edition of 99 copies.
*Iibiis Rooge (Astral Social Club + High Wolf) - Ilbiis Rooge CDR $10.99 (Crier Dans Les Musees)
"Superastral team, iibiis rooge is the proof that the famous 1+1=3 equation is correct. Modern psychedelic High Wolf jams + Astral Social Club fucked up improv electronics = something we don't have a name for. Better than a one shot collab this duo is made to last. Forthcoming debut LP on Dekorder." - label. Edition of 99 copies.
Saturn Finger - Saturn Finger CDR $10.99 (Crier Dans Les Musees)
"Debut release for Saturn Finger (Enfer Boréal + Uton), recorded during winter 2007 / 2008, previously released as a very limited tour cdr during their last France / UK / Netherlands tour. Psychedelic drone, mystic chants, shamanistic percussion...those tracks were made looking a the far east where both SF members spent some time wandering and listening. Artwork by James Livingston from Black Horizons.." - label. Edition of 100 copies.
DANCING WAYANG - Price still to be determined
*John Edwards & Chris Corsano - Tsktsking LP $? (Dancing Wayang)
"TSKTSKING is the first duo album by London-based double bassist John Edwards and US drummer extraordinaire Chris Corsano. The album was recorded at Eastcote Studios, London in December 2008. Limited to 500 copies it comes housed in hand screenprinted wrap-around sleeves. The accompanying insert features exclusive and humerous liner notes written by UK sax pioneer Evan Parker. Defying the drum and bass's classic roles as rhythm instruments, Edwards and Corsano's TSKTSKING is a beautifully melodic album. At times Corsano's drumset sounds like it's got strings whilst Edwards's double bass takes its fair share of scrapes and slaps. Extended passages explore the most subtle and some unexpected sounds that can be summoned from metal and timber. Equally, possessed progressions and untamed eruptions of energy and power are conjured up. These two musicians prey and pounce on their instruments like it's their last chance. The first 100 copies of the LP come with a bonus 3" CDR entitled "Vanishing Point" which features two tracks from the studio sessions. Like the LP these are also packaged in small hand screenprinted sleeves." Only getting a couple copies with the bonus 3" CDR.
DEKORDER
*Richard Youngs - Like A Neuron LP $19.99 (Dekorder)
"Richard Youngs is a prolific British musician (located in Glasgow) with an extremely diverse output. Dusted Magazine once wrote he is "defying strict genre classifications since the early nineties, swapping labels, styles, partners, motifs, and recording techniques as the desire has struck him". So his new album for Dekorder might not be a surprise to anyone following his career. Still, a self-proclaimed all-electronic "ecstatic House record" comes somewhat unexpected. With a line of distinctive synthesizers often used for Techno/House Music Youngs recreates the energy, euphoria and frenzy of these styles without ever trying to recreate the music note by note. The final outcome sounds like recordings made by aliens who have received transmissions about House Music but never listened to the music itself. The album reminds of the sound of hallways/corridors inbetween large House parties where you can hear the music from several floors collide. While it's an emulation, interpretation or replica of House Music, it's still managing to evoke similar feelings even though some might find it difficult to dance to the music. In the past, Youngs has released several albums on a dozen labels such as VHF, Jagjaguwar, Table Of The Elements, Gipsy Sphinx, Majora, Chocolate Monk, Celebrate Psi Phenomena, Fusetron and his own No Fans outlet. He has collaborated with Neil Campbell (aka Astral Social Club), Matthew Bower, Simon Wickham-Smith and many others and was a member of the A-Band and has performed live and in the studio with Sunroof! And Skullflower. Additionally, Youngs played bass for Jandek, appearing on three of his live records/DVD's. Limited edition of 500 copies!"
Our Love Will Destroy The World - Stillborn Plague Angels LP $19.99 (Dekorder)
"The gates of Birchville Cat Motel crack, creak wide, and crash, unleashing a gush of soul-fried bleakness and love-damage stained with a defiantly metallic pose. Thats "METALLIC... as in, has the surface qualities of metal" not "METAL... as in, has the surface qualities of Metallica"... step back you fucking freaks. Although the broken bricks of BCM are still plain to see amid the burning wreck and ruin, 'Stillborn Plague Angels' represents the first fully formed sentence in a new chapter of Campbell Kneale's ongoing tome of star-spangled, psychedelic, noise-OM. Cholesterol-shaving guitar peeks over the trench to survey an adrenalised landscape of endless roaring catastrophy... Everything louder than everything else! Our Love Will Destroy The World is the new one-man project by New Zealander Campbell Kneale after disbanding BIRCHVILLE CAT MOTEL. In the past Kneale has released albums on Ecstatic Peace, Corpus Hermeticum, Last Visible Dog, Conspiracy and his own Celebrate Psi Phenomena label. He has colllaborated with Lee Ranaldo, Neil Campbell, Bruce Russel, John Olson (Wolf Eyes), Yellow Swans, has toured throughout Japan, Europe, America and Australia and also records und the names Black Boned Angel and Ming. "Stillborn Plague Angels" is the debut LP by this new project." Last copies coming -final restock.
DESTIJL
*Michael And The Mumbles - Michael And The Mumbles LP $13.99 (DeStijl)
"Before Michael Yonkers would revise the history of recorded music with the clarion chords of Microminature Love he was in a band called Michael and the Mumbles and they made this self-titled LP in 1966. Upon immediate spins, their would-be debut comes off as a naive, teenage trip thru the typified garage band moves of this era. But repeated spins reveal a darkness beneath what some dullard might be deceived by as it's crisp, winsome visage. It's only to a slightly less visible degree that the Mumbles LP has the same characteristics that would make Micro the singularly original piece that is; it's emotionally bleak themes, dissonant undercurrents, and recklessly wild performance. So, once again we have a Michael Yonkers LP that is going to turn the world upside down, make the college girls scream, and leave you wondering how many more times this can happen. Seriously, Pigeon Falls up here looks like a Riot on the Sunset Strip. Indulge yrself. PS. Michael and the Mumbles is on the king of all known formats (with a digital download coupon, natch). The mastertapes used herein are 45 yrs old and aside from the glitch on "Cold Town" they sound amazing."
*The Parasites Of The Western World - The Parasites Of The Western World LP $15.99 (DeStijl)
"The Parasites Of The Western World are a band from Portland OR who released their recorded debut in 1978. It's a fascinating spin, a galactic ramble across the otherworldly themes of alienation and paranoia, seemingly inspired by LSD and Philip Dick. Primarily the creation of Patrick Burke and Terry Censky, the Parasites were limitless with invention and completely DIY. This is a record that was recorded in an apartment, by a crew thoughtful enough to curtail its loud excursions for the daylight hours. Its rockist moves are surprisingly informed by the typical institutions of this era : Pink Floyd, the Beatles and Hawkwind and it's many electronic flourishes are an above ground sound that would presage the likes of Vertical Slit, F/I and Vertigo. The Parasites remain to be light years ahead of a time that has yet to come. This swank, one time vinyl pressing of 1000 copies will contain a digital download coupon so you'll be pleased if that's yr thing."
DIGITALIS ARTS & CRAFTS - expected this week
*Evan Caminiti - Psychic Mud Shrine CD $12.99 (Digitalis Arts & Crafts)
"For my money, Barn Owl is the best new band to emerge in the last five years. Their trajectory has been meteoric, progressing musically and conceptually in leaps and bounds. I've been thrilled to be there from the beginning, watching and listening in awe as the duo of Jon Porras and Evan Caminiti have carved out an impressive niche of their own. Heavy doses of guitar savagery and tribal essence have them firmly planted at the top of the mountain. So it makes sense to deconstruct the duo and present each as a solo entity, soaring on their own. In a perfect world, Evan Caminiti would be a guitar god worshipped by hordes of spike-wearing metalheads. Seriously. Caminiti's newest solo offering (and first large-scale release) is a big, smoldering mass of guitar sacrifices. We're deep down in the hollows now. "Psychic Mud Shrine" is epic in every way. Thick, massive walls of lava-flow guitars bow down at an altar of excess. Caminiti creates jagged drones like no other. Distorted guitars sound simultaneously tortured and energized like it's unsure if this hell on earth brings pleasure or pain. It's just so fucking massive. With titles like "Melting Temple/Plumes of Babylon," you know what direction this is heading and it's a train you don't want to miss. "Psychic Mud Shrine" is a powerful statement from an artist coming into his own. Over the course of four sprawling masterpieces, you'll be entranced and exalted. This album rings out from the deep valleys carved straight to the fucking core. Edition of 500 in gatefold jackets with all art designed by Caminiti."
*Elm - Nemcatacoa CD $12.99 (Digitalis Arts & Crafts)
"For my money, Barn Owl is the best new band to emerge in the last five years. Their trajectory has been meteoric, progressing musically and conceptually in leaps and bounds. I've been thrilled to be there from the beginning, watching and listening in awe as the duo of Jon Porras and Evan Caminiti have carved out an impressive niche of their own. Heavy doses of guitar savagery and tribal essence have them firmly planted at the top of the mountain. So it makes sense to deconstruct the duo and present each as a solo entity, soaring on their own. Elm is the name of Porras' solo creations. His music retains the megasonics of Barn Owl, but finds his tutelage deep in the heart of the desert. "Nemcatacoa" is a lonesome, epic journey. Named after one of the deities of his Colombian heritage, his latest full-length (and first large-scale solo release) feels huge and endless. Walls of guitars shatter beneath the weight of the booming percussion blasts that find their way from the caves into the light. An acoustic guitar is mournfully plucked, the beginning of a procession of the dead. "Nemcatacoa" is an album begging for somebody, anybody to find and embrace. Porras is a master artist. The instrumentation at work here is even more impressive when you consider it's played by a lone soul. Guitars, Rhodes, Harmonium, Trumpet and more echo through the caverns of the ancient Earth. Even though this album is dark and at times bleak, it never overpowers. Traversing similar aural planes as Sunn O))) and Earth, Porras is staking a claim all his own. As his voice wails over blankets of guitars, he never loses sight of the golden life ahead. Incredible. Edition of 500 CDs in silver-on-black gatefold sleeves."
DIGITALIS LIMITED- expected this week
*Alphabets - Pow Sound c34 cassette $7.99 (Digitalis Limited)
"what an absolute revelation. alphabets is the brainchild of denver savant, colin ward and his first ever tape, "pow sound," is the bedroom dance party of your dreams. total synth overload and excess like somebody stole all the jewels hollywood has to offer and hid them in ward's keyboard. cut & paste pop bliss that is heavy on the heavy beats. seriously, the beats and the hooks are the stars here. you can't help but get sucked in and shake your ass. days later, the songs will be stuck in your head, you'll be humming the shower... from here on out, it's over. don't fight it. give in. enjoy. it's over. edition of 70, aqua blue beauties."
*Brother Raven - Nellie c40 cassette $7.99 (Digitalis Limited)
"Oh how i wish these guys were transversing the astral plane while i was still living up in seattle. i would have been an addict in need of some serious 12-steppage. the brothers raven are in fact jason anderson (spare death icon) and jamie potter (ex-bonus, million mists) cooking up a cosmic bowl of synthesizer stew. their methodic journeys feel like space-age rituals, painted in glitter and offered up to the stars as proof that electronics are alive. anderson and potter weave beautiful mystic webs of sonic spirals. you might as well ditch the crystal healing because brother raven will take you places far beyond the exosphere. bathe in the light and never look back. edition of 70, white as snow."
*Lakes - Monument of Nests c19 cassette $7.99 (Digitalis Limited)
"I'm honestly surprised that lakes AKA sean bailey isn't more of a household name. through the years, he's put out some killer damage on his inverted crux label and his own projects (paeces, lamp puffer w/ peaking lights' aaron coyes, wasted truth, etc). well, "monument of nests" is one of his best and we're damn pleased to make it available again. originally self-released in a micro edition, it's now hear to stay. disjointed, deconstructed pop songs that lean heavy on primitive, almost tribal rhythms and ramshackle instrumentation. acoustic guitars sound like they've been overblown to smithereens. makeshift electronics find their way through the fog, splattering everything in waves of analog fuzz. all the while, bailey's deep, monotone vocals spell the end for anyone who moves to close. punk in spirit, fucked in sound. edition of 70, clear as day."
*Plankton Wat - Our Solar Beings c28 cassette $7.99 (Digitalis Limited)
all love to the master, dewmah has arrived. dewey mahood is probably best known these days as being the non-bindeman third of portland's fuzz kings, eternal tapestry. but when he's not burning down houses, he moonlights as the inimitable plankton wat. fractured folk-infused meanderings with warm strings and organic dressing. mahood's vocals are the ideal accompaniment to these bright, understated anthems. minimal percussion and mbira pick up where the vocals leave off, finding a balance with the acoustic haze. it's been a great year for plankton wat (check his DNT lp!) and eternal tapestry, and "our solar beings" is another vital feather in his discography. edtion of 80, golden red suns."
*Rambutan - Incidences c40 cassette $7.99 (Digitalis Limited)
"century plants & burnt hills conspirator, eric hardiman, is no stranger to the realms of burnt-to-a-crisp garbage drones. his solo guise, rambutan, has been on an absolute tear this year with not-to-be-missed offerings on stunned, 905 tapes, house of alchemy, & others. his abstract meanderings grind it out with tortured guitar melodies and raw, spitting electronics. hardiman wields tension like most people drop the ball. each side demands submission as each is an open, festering wound that needs to be cauterized. these pieces ooze like liquid gold. mastery, motherfuckers, take it or leave it. edition of 70, green team."
*Sundog Peacehouse - Bros c53 cassette $7.99 (Digitalis Limited)
"the first time i heard this trio i was absolutely smitten. sundog peacehouse are chris mucci, sal farinia and austin redwood and will soon be taking over their native pittsburgh by lulling everyone into a codeine coma. shimmering walls of heavily-processed vocals, guitars and samples ease you down into emerald green pools of total bliss. pure waves of spiralling sonics drench you and hold you close. there is something so unbelievably comforting about this music that it's impossible to get away from, impossible to ignore. having shared bills with caboladies (past) and bardo pond (future), you get any idea where these soaring aural dreams are going to take you. sundog peacehouse are stunning, simply put. don't wait around for the surf to break you out, just stay sunkissed and in love. edition of 70, fuschia waves to the stars."
DIGITALIS VINYL- expected this week
*Bugskull - Communication LP $17.99 (Digitalis)
"Flashback to 1997 and in the world of underground droning weirdness, Bugskull were heavyweight champions. The revolving cast of characters always centered around Sean Byrne. He concocted buckets full of syrupy delights that encompassed everything from electronica, post-rock, dub, noise and endless pop hooks. Byrne was joined by multi-instrumentalist Brendan Bell and percussionist James Yu throughout the latter half of the '90s, taking Bugskull from bedroom wonder to full-blown magic carpet band. Bugskull released records and singles on some of the great experimental labels of the day such as Road Cone, Scratch, and Shrimper. I can safely say that as I was discovering experimental music during my mid & late teens, Bugskull were one of my all-time favorite bands. The last album Byrne released was in 2002, "The Big White Cloud," which followed-up the acclaimed "Distracted Snowflake" duology. During the late '90s, Byrne recorded a third album that extended the themes of the "Snowflake" records. Due to label issues and disputes, this third album never came out until now, almost ten years later. "Communication" is the bookend to the hypnotic reverie created by "Distracted Snowflake" volumes 1 & 2. With layers of organ and synth floating like cotton candy on top of dub and hip-hop infused beats, Byrne is in top form. "Communication" isn't so much a lost album as it is confirmation of a legacy and declaration of intent. Bugskull is back. >From the tribal beach vibes of "High Steppin' II" right down to the drenched bones of the droning, black river sonics of "Subterranean Life," this album brings everything that made Bugskull so great and concentrates it on two sides of vinyl. Upbeat, fast-moving synth lines bob and move in minimal electronic waves while violins moan on "Squeaky Bagpipe." The title track is an exercise in restraint as Byrne uses turntables and molasses-paced guitars to the listener into a false sense of serenity, only to be drowned in opiates and put to bed by "Pondlife." Whether he's created simple, deceptive trips with sparse, but effective rhythmic cues or is just wallowing in the aural beauty of sine tones and synth drones, Byrne doesn't ever let up. For those who have been as big of fans I have through the years, you probably never thought another Bugskull album would show up on the horizon. I know I didn't. But after seven years of waiting for something fresh, it's all worth it in the end to start the journey from scratch. Vinyl only and limited to 300 copies."
*Seht - HRRY LP + 3" CDR $20.99 (Digitalis)
"Since Digitalis first planted its roots over six years ago, few artists have been as integral to and representative of the label as New Zealand's drone king, seht. We've released three of his albums and he's appeared on multiple compilations and collaborations. seht has always been the work of one Stephen Clover. He comes from a long line of great Kiwis like The Dead C and Birchville Cat Motel, but has always blazed along similar trails as giants such as Tony Conrad, Eno, and Olivier Messiaen. That being said, none of it prepared us for the leap forward he took on his first ever vinyl release, "HRRY." While some artists struggle to make music that is wholly avante-garde and still approachable and listenable, Clover avoids those pitfulls masterfully. "HRRY" is in exercise in the use of crackling electronics, minimal beats, computer manipulation and solid-state drones. Each track slowly progresses as they build off each other and form a sprawling conglomeration of tones. It's as if you're stuck in a post-apocalyptic dreamworld where industrial giants are fighting back against the warm, relentless elegance of nature. Even though the arsenal Clover is using is as unnatural as it gets, the music on "HRRY" displays such an innate organicness that it's almost confusing. From the computerized voice of "ERKK" to the throbbing beat of "SPFT," it's as though he's gone so far into the mechanical, man-made world that he's come all the way to the other side. "HRRY" is a dark album that is glazed with a sense of hope. Echoes of the ghosts of Basinski ride through these ambient rivers, trying to find new forms of electronic music. It's music for the second coming... of what? An era where all the rotting buildings and shades of grey breathe new life into the elemental ashes of fallen empires. LP comes in silver & black fold-out poster sleeve and is strictly limited to 150 copies."
DIVORCE - expected in 1 -2 weeks
*Noveller / Aidan Baker - Colourful Disturbances LP $16.99 (Divorce)
"Guitars warped so hard they dissolve into pure consciousness! Seriously, this record had to happen because these two are the NOW of transcendental guitar weirdness. In families like ours where deformed music of one kind or another pours out of the speakers all day long, Toronto's Aidan Baker is a household name. He is no doubt one of the most imaginative experimental musicians of the new generation, quickly creating a universe of limitless sound with his bursting discography. He offers this record an extensive piece which mixes drone, texture, and an ever-bowing foundation -- imagine the sound of falling backwards... forever. The new blood on this split is guitarist Sarah Lipstate from Brooklyn, New York (aka Noveller). Sarah's prepared twin guitar works up a slow hypnotic force, gently pulling way out to the furthest deep end of pulses and patterns. Beautiful repetitions effortlessly skirt over a dark undercurrent. A+++ listen. Edition of 600 copies."
ECSTATIC PEACE
*Hush Arbors - Yankee Reality CD $10.99 (Ecstatic Peace)
"Yankee Reality. What does it mean? Does it portend that there is some unique, other plain of existence for northerners and/or city folk? Something perhaps alien to, well, everybody else? Virginia cum citizen of London/rambling man Keith Wood knows all about it. Several years ago, he relocated to the city of crumpets and tea, where he, among other things, secured a gig playing guitar for notoriously intense death folk legends Current 93. In the midst of all this excitement, he has managed to write and record a brand new Hush Arbors album, his second for Ecstatic Peace!, and it's his finest to date. With a full band in tow -- multi instrumentalist Leon Dufficy, bassist Jason Ajemian, and drummer Ryan Sawyer -- and none other than J Mascis in the producer's chair, Yankee Reality continues Wood's winning streak while introducing an embarrassment of riches in the way of surprises and curveballs along the way. Yankee Reality is a credit to Keith Wood's vast talents as a songwriter and performer, but also, stands as a shining example of his breadth of focus and versatility. How many fools out there love Merle Haggard, The Dead and Dinosaur, Jr equally? I know one." - James Jackson Toth, Nashville, TN, August 2009.
*MV & EE - Barn Nova CD $10.99 (Ecstatic Peace)
"Still harvesting and sustaining in the deep woods of Vermont , MV & EE (Matt 'MV' Valentine, once the brawn of the Tower Recordings, and Erika 'EE' Elder, CEO of Heroine Celestial Agriculture and The MV & EE Medicine Show) are following their 2008 release Drone Trailer with their feature-film-for-the-blind Barn Nova, which marks their return to the Ecstatic Peace! label. MV & EE aspire to the sort of beautifully rewarding standard in their documented output that Sun Ra or The Grateful Dead achieved. It is with Ecstatic Peace! that their most consistent works have been born and continue reach fans with The Golden Road, their most constant band. Together with Doc Dunn (pedal steel, rhythm guitar, vocals, drums) and Mike Smith (Rickenbacker 4001, vocals), who appeared on Drone Trailer, as well as J Mascis (drums, guitar, plate reverb) and Woods' Jeremy Earl (vocal, drums) they take you on the ride now known as Barn Nova and here they jam. Justin Pizzoferrato also appears contributing percussion, space echo and aiding once again at the controls. This album was recorded at MV & EE's own home studio 'Maximum Arousal Farm' as well as their current local New England rooms of choice, 'Bank Row' (an old mid 1900s bank) and J's home studio 'Bisquiteen.' These kindred spirits share a wealth of ideas including a serious reverence and desire to upgrade/expand the classic-rock idiom. Barn Nova marks the return of 'Spectrasound,' MV's production technique that places tones dancing all around the stereo sound field: it has to be heard to be believed. This effect is all the more impressive that the majority of it was created recording live, rather than conjured through studio post-production during mixing. Especially potent on the A side-ending stomp 'Summer Magic,' where Erika's economical leads go head-to-head with J's on a particularly mind-blowing live-in-studio effort; It brings to mind the vibe of Green Blues, Mother Of Thousands and even an electric Moon Jook with matured songwriting. Inspired by the likes of Jerry Garcia, Tom Verlaine, Matt Valentine displays an insatiable appetite to play in various idioms with constant exploration and development. Meanwhile, Elder's harmony leads recall the glorious twinned guitar lines of Canned Heat's Al Wilson & Henry Vestine at their most potent."

*Virginia Genta / Chris Corsano - The Live in Lisbon LP $29.99 (8mm Records)
"What happens when two stars collide? An interstellar collaboration out of this galaxy! Here in this new fantastic LP from Virginia Genta (of Jooklo fame) and Chris Corsano (arguably considered 'the last drummer on earth'), both musicians put blood, sweat, and lots of muscle into three new wildly charged cuts!!!! The album begins at sunset on a terrace in Lisbon (Summer 2008) with ferocious sax and drums escalating as the sun sets with Chris' incredible drum solo leaving everyone in a trance, while Virginia's vocals evoke the spirits of the birds who join this bizarre duo hypnotized, creating some of the weirdest sounds ever listened! Turn to B side and you are in the streets of Marrakesh, with cobras spitting at you from baskets, donkeys staggering past under the weight of gigantic loads, men crowding around cock fights, yelling at their bets under the din. Then the final moment, with Genta blowing like a volcano in eruption, and Chris' hyperkinetic drumming collapsing into pure maniacal machine-gun destruction! Terrific!" - label. Numbered edition of 300 copies.

FIRE RECORDS
*Spacemen 3 - Sound of Confusion LP $17.99 (Fire)
"Originally released on the Glass label in 1986, this is the debut album from the group led by Sonic Boom of SPECTRUM and Jason Pierce of SPIRITUALIZED. Featuring covers of 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS, THE STOOGES, and JUICY LUCY among some classic originals, this is the band's first foray into the deep, stoned, trance-inducing, psychedelic sound they would master on later albums. Original artwork, 180 gram vinyl."
*Spacemen 3 - The Perfect Prescription LP $17.99 (Fire)
"This 1987 album is where the group perfected their woozy, psychedelic drone-pop, moving beyond mere tribute to their influences into a world all their own. A concept record about a drug trip, from the euphoric high of album opener "Take Me to the Other Side," to the drowsy, disturbed finish of "Call the Doctor," this is arguably their finest moment. Original artwork, 180 gram vinyl."
*Spacemen 3 - Performance LP $17.99 (Fire)
"Live in Amsterdam in 1988 on tour to support the "Perfect Prescription" album, this features 7 songs: "Mary-Anne," "Come Together," "Things'll Never Be the Same," "Take Me to the Other Side," "Rollercoaster," "Starship," and "Walkin' with Jesus." Original artwork, 180 gram vinyl."

FONAL RECORDS
*Es - Kesämaan Lapset LP $16.99 (Fonal Records)
"This is Fonal label-head and filmmaker Sami Sänpäkkilä's fifth solo album under the name Es. Recorded during a 3-year period, it is a mixture of pop and sacred soundscapes with influences varying from contemporary indie-rock to ancient classical music. The name translates to "The Children Of The Summerland," and is an homage to Finnish cult folk legend Pekka Streng's album Kesämaa ("Summerland"), which is one of the artist's favorite Finnish albums ever made. Various quirky instrumentation is used on Kesämaan Lapset; from high-end analog synthesizers and upright pianos to cheap flea market Casios. A few special guests make an appearance on this record, including Laura Laurila (violin), Tuomas Eriksson (Risto) (trombone) and Elissa Määttänen (vocals). On "Ennen Oli Huonommin," squiggling, rapid-fire synth noises battle a chorus of angels against a droning and static-y backdrop. On "Haamut Sun Sydämestä," high-pitched cries ride on top of a melancholy piano line, while what seems like thousands of pitched-shifted orchestras and bleeps multiply and rise atonally. The title track is a stunning, epic drone-piece with chanting vocals in a golden forest of sound: strings and horn lines, sinuous, ethereal synths and organ mantras. Recorded at home in the bedroom and abroad on various travels, Es has crafted a haunting summer album that evokes a strange, nostalgic, visceral response, like gazing at childhood photographs." - FE
GOLDEN LAB RECORDS
*Bridget Hayden - Bridget Hayden CDR $8.99 (Golden Lab Records)
"Recorded at The Bowling Green pub in Manchester on 17th November 2008, when Bridget was on tour with Marcia Bassett, this is a maximal 25-minute set of epic guitar brutalising and deep, moaned vocal incantations. Employing a bow and 'metal' effects pedals, the resulting cacophony is orchestral in scope, rendering almost unreliable the memory of one woman and her instrument. Somewhat akin to Bassett's duo with Matthew Bower, Hototogisu, the deeply layered tones created by Hayden offer, upon first exposure, a somewhat icy auditory experience, but as the recording settles in, the richness and sheer breadth of sound wraps around you like a feather quilt and shifts your perception almost 180 degrees. A truly magnificent set from this former Vibracathedral Orchestra member that cements her reputation as far more than that alone. Limited to 80 copies with sleeves printed on recycled paper using soya based ink."

*Concert Silence - 9.22.07 CD $13.99 (Infraction)
*Concert Silence - 9.22.07 double LP $29.99 (Infraction)
"We've been fans of Eluvium for quite some time, so when the opportunity to work with Matthew Cooper came up, I jumped at the chance. This recording is a collaboration with Charles Buckingham and Eluvium under the name Concert Silence. It was originally a live set on 9.22.07 and then the recording assumed that name. It was mastered (by Carl Saff) and touched up a bit by both Cooper and Buckingham. The release is going to be available as a CD as well as a 2LP set. The LPs are 180g pressings, with a D-side vinyl etching. The sleeves will be Stoughton tip-on gatefold style with full color printed inner sleeves and an OBI. The CD will be a 6 panel digipak. Both editions limited to 900 copies each.
*Concert Silence - Rain Furniture ep CD $9.99 (Infraction)
*Concert Silence - Rain Furniture ep 12" $14.99 (Infraction)
"Matthew and Charles did not want Concert Silence to be a one-hit wonder, so they recorded the 'rain furniture' ep in 2008. This was not a live recording, instead an exchange of ideas in a home studio setting. Fuzzy ambient with buried muffled minimal orchestral interludes."
ISOUNDERSCORE
*Acre - Isolationist CD $11.99 (Isounderscore)
"After years of painfully limited cassette and CD-R releases, Aaron Davis has created his most definitive and ambitious work as ACRE to date. "Isolationist" is the first official full-length from one of Portland's most enigmatic and respected figures of the Northwest's fervent experimental music underground. The album features a new track recorded during the Summer of 2009, exhibiting the slow yet subtle and highly-detailed electronic undulations that has largely characterized Davis' work as ACRE. Alongside this new piece are two completely remastered tracks from the original "Painless" CD-R released on the Students of Decay label in a criminally limited edition of 75 copies in 2008. A record which unequivocally celebrates Davis' years of painstaking effort mastering the minimalism of room crushing frequencies, this album represents the most essential and first widely available ACRE release. Recorded by Aaron Davis in Portland, Oregon, Mastered by Thomas Dimuzio at Gench Studios in August 2009. Graphic design and artwork by Brandon Nickell. Printed on spot-varnish fluroescent orange matte jackets; limited edition of 500 copies on compact disc."
*Dimmer - Remissions double LP $21.99 (Isounderscore)
Dimmer's "Remissions" is the second full-length album from longtime sonic architects of interactive feedback circuits, Thomas Dimuzio and Joseph Hammer. This 2xLP effectively represents four side-long pieces from their live shows throughout California taken place between 2006 and 2007. Essentially a follow-up to their 2007 album on Los Angeles’ Melon Expander, "Remissions" expands upon the immense recursive tape looping and resampling that is found inherent in their work but achieves a weight and time displacement that greatly overshadows their dark preceding full-lengh. All four pieces were recorded at: Norcal Noisefest in Sacramento (2006, "Sky Wire"), The Luggage Store Gallery in San Francisco (2006, "Sun Dog"), The Smell in Los Angeles (2006, "Gases That Emit Light"), and ArtSF's Noise Pancakes Series (2007, "Giant Eagle"). Live sampling, processing, feedback, looping by Thomas Dimuzio. Tape manipulation and processing by Joseph Hammer. Design and layout by Thomas Dimuzio, Joseph Hammer and Brandon Nickell. Limited to 500 copies on full-color sleeves with cover photography by John Dalton."
KETCHUP CAVERN
*Fossils - Young Guns one-sided LP $11.99 (Ketchup Cavern)
"Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, the free improv freak unit Fossils have unleashed about a billion limited-run releases documenting their weird journey since 2005. Built on mystery, busted electronics, internal machine feedback, treated tapes & amplified junk, Fossils paint abstract new visions on steel cave walls. The 2009 Fossils players include David Payne, Steve Smith (thousand year frog), Daniel Farr (the living stump) & featuring the saxophone stylings of Rob Michalchuk (poor little music label). Young Guns was recorded sometime 2008 at mjc hq. Ketchup Cavern's first jazz record. Numbered edition of 119, color paste-on/screenprinted artwork, handmade sleeve. No computers used in production or design. Mastered from cassette for maximum audio fidelity."

LEFTIST NAUTICAL ANTIQUES
*Forest Swords - Miarches cassingle $5.99 (Leftist Nautical Antiques)
"The one that really started it all. A dramatic trudge on the British coast filled with pulsing dubsoul and swampy bogged down peninsular drone feelings. Complete with slicing guitars and room filling swamp beats. I'm not really sure what any of that means, but this tape is some of the freshest dank around. Next level jams. There will also soon be a FS 12? EP released by the splendid Olde English Spelling Bee. Pro-dubbed opaque yellow CS in legit o-card packaging designed by Matt Barnes (a.k.a. Forest Swords) in an edition of 125."
*Pure Ecstasy - Future Nostalgia cassette $5.99 (Leftist Nautical Antiques)
"Imagine: sitting around in a gazebo pretending that it's still summr while the leaves around you are burnt orange and your friend just brought over 'the best purple he's ever smoked' and your other friend is in this band that plays the haziest, most reverby music ever. The lead singer is a kinda a downer, but the longing in his voice makes the immanent summer's end all the more real. The b-side flips two bowls later and 'You're In It Now.' The sun is still out but the rain is coming down hard bringing the last of the crispy leaves to the ground. But it's still warm out. And it's not that Wild Turkey mixed with the dank, it's Pure Ecstasy. This tape contains longer, more extended versions of the Pure X self-released 7?. Edition of 100 on royal blue tapes with appropriate beach hazed j-card. Comes with an mp3 download for digitalized enjoyment."
LILITH
*The Litter - Emerge LP $22.99 (Lilith)
"Released in 1969, two years after the garage rock oriented debut LP by this Minneapolis band, this album combines influences from many late-'60s bands with a more psych-rock and hard rock sound, especially THE AMBOY DUKES, BLUE CHEER, CREAM, and IRON BUTTERFLY. Original BLUE CHEER-inspired artwork, 180 gram vinyl LP pressing, Russian/Italian import."
LOCUST - expected late October / early November
*Jay Bolotin - Jay Bolotin LP $15.99 (Locust)
"Described by Kris Kristofferson as "one of the three best songwriters in the country," Kentucky native Jay Bolotin's songs have been championed by the likes of Merle Haggard and Porter Wagoner, among many others. Yet Jay's eponymous debut - released on the major subsidiary Commonwealth United label - had the halflife of a mayfly when it went into circulation in 1970 and today it remains as phantasmic as the prairie ghosts that have long populated his native Kentucky. However hasty or uncertain the release of the album may have been some 40 years ago, one thing is certain: in a darkened room in New York City at the end of a Kentucky childhood, a 20 year old Jay Bolotin cut a singularly enchanted album of unhurried, low key loner ballads with the confidence and honesty of a seasoned journeyman. Jay Bolotin is an unqualified singer songwriter gem that will appeal to fans of Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt & Alex Chilton. Features Kenny Lyon on Bass & Mark Taber on Piano & Harpsichord - both veterans of the Providence, Rhode Island scene, The Fugs' Bobby Mason on percussion and David Mowry on guitar." Deluxe 180 Gram vinyl featuring new liner notes and lyrics inserts.

*Tom Fazzini - Neck To Neck LP $15.99 (Locust)
"The record was made with the backdrop of recovery - a new place to live and a chance at renewal -quite on the edge, lots of anger and the absurdity of life all swirling around. Remember believing at the time that I would probably have a short life, so that desperation fed into the album. First and last chance to maybe say something on record. It took several months to record and each session was a short burst. Towards the end of the recording a welcome sense of levity crept in, spurred on by the ludicrous casio pre-sets. That felt good, given the whole Industrial scene, in the broad sense, was a bit earnest and po-faced. The album title came to me from being familiar with a bar called 'the swan with two necks'. I imagined Lyn and myself as two separate swans , damaged, their necks entwined and in my mind that poetically offset the industrial harshness within the grooves." - Tom Fazzini. "Neck To Neck is a head scratching slab of warped primitive synth punk cut by a young Tom Fazzini in exile from a madness inducing tenure as a London postal carrier at Paul Dillon's Complex studios. Originally released in 1984 on Gordon A. Hope's short lived A-mission label (which also counted releases by Asmus Tietchens & O Yuki Conjugate), Tom Fazzini's combination of minimal synth and brutalist /absurdist industrial songs had more in line with the broader discomforts of the early 80s international tape network, Family Fodder, LAFMS, Flying Lizards and Ralph records than the agit pop that dominated the Leeds music scene at the time. Once an outsider, always an outsider. Features new liner notes by Tom Fazzini & previously unpublished photos. Remastered and pressed up on 180 gram virgin vinyl. one time edition of 500."
*Starless & Bible Black - The Shape of The Shape LP $15.99 (Locust)
"On their Sophomore release, The Shape of the Shape, Manchester, England's Starless & Bible Black have drawn together the sounds of '70s Topanga Canyon country-rock, '80s Mancunian jangle, and space-age psych tinged drones to make a dynamic, warm and woodsy second album. Gone are the dulcimers and banjos of the first record, replaced by an electrifying wall of Telecaster and Moog, and standing in the center of this bold, widescreen sound resides the earthy and husky voice of Hélène Gautier. Recorded at Bryn Derwen within the wilds of the Snowdonian mountains, and during all night sessions in the relative tranquility of their local village hall, Shape Of The Shape is an album of contrasting styles, themes and approaches that coheres beautifully into a seamless entity. We get guided through verses and choruses of swamp rock, gothic bluesy chanson and smoky acoustic ballads, as well as a jazz-folk tinged instrumental - after all, the band take their name from the classic 1965 Stan Tracey cut - but the apogee of this collection is the driving drone-choral opus, Les Furies - sung in French, this is a very Gallic observation of after hours culture. And while this album traverses all these different styles, the band never deny the importance of a fine tune and a fine song." Pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

MEXICAN SUMMER
*Washed Out - Life Of Leisure LP $17.99 (Mexican Summer)
"This is the debut six song 12" from Ernest Greene aka Washed Out. Bent synth-pop gems that are equal parts psychedelia and anthemic club banger. All recorded in his parent's home in the rural Georgia town where he grew up. Essential and addictive. 1,000 pressing - first press 800 black vinyl/200 purple haze. The main single got 9/10 Best new Track review on Pitchfork and has spearheaded a massive buzz among the blog world (Stereogum, Gorilla Vs. Bear, Earfarm, Popmatters, and more). Read the Pitchfork review here: <http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/11455-feel-it-all-around/>http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/11455-feel-it-all-around/ "Both Ernest Greene's real name and artistic moniker sound like tired-out Pynchonian punchlines, especially given the guy's tendency so far for making sly robo-pop. The few (self-) released contributions from this South Carolinian have a homespun synthesizer arrangements and multi-tracked, faraway vocals that sound something like, say, the theme music to an instructional video from 1987. "Feel It All Around" serves as the natural progression from "You'll See It", the ravey little slab of diffident lo-fi pop <http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/11399-youll-see-it/>reviewed by Pitchfork earlier this year, by bringing the curtain down on the little party suggested by "You'll See It". In fact, Greene seems to operate in a nexus of clubby little referents. Brief stabs of dub drums cheat into the mix. The synthesizers that drive the arrangement sound cheap and liquored-up, but are impeccably paced like a pour of great molasses. Somewhere, echoes of 10cc's breathy "I'm Not In Love" enter the picture, as does YMO's churning bass exploration "Naughty Boys". Greene seems dedicated to mapping a musical history that never actually existed but seems meticulously seen: a historical fiction re-imagining a lifetime of easy listening. Although Greene makes primarily keyboard-based music, his vision is stuck somewhere in an imagined euphoria set after the art rock of the late 70s, with a dotted line drawn directly through the swath of synth pop and all the way to the psychedelic, guitar driven Brit-pop of the Stone Roses. But leave the slippery musicology behind. "Feel It All Around" is a deliciously unbalanced track, starting into the groove right off the bat and unexpectedly fading out at the end. The unusual compositional style is tailor-made to entice you to spin it again, and Greene's little gem does little to convince you otherwise."
MISSISSIPPI RECORDS
*Michael Hurley - Parsnip Snips LP $15.99 (Mississippi Records)
"Originally released in 1997 in Germany in a press size of 500. These original copies were seized by the government shortly after the record's release. Only 150 or so were sold before the seizing, but since then copies have leaked out of whatever dank German bureaucratic basement they were relegated to. Still, a very hard record to find for years, now back in print. Our current reissue was re-mastered from the original tapes and has superior sound quality to the original. Culled from Michael's unreleased output between his First songs LP from 1964 and Armchair Boogie in 1972. All tracks feature just Michael and guitar. Absolutely beautiful folk music by the singular Snock - in our opinion, one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time."
$9.50 UPC: N/A ROCK
*Joseph Spence - Bahaman Guitarist LP $15.99 (Mississippi Records)
"Reissue of the Arhoolie LP recorded in 1971. Joseph Spence was a highly original guitarist and vocalist from the Bahamas. His music is hard to describe - extreme guitar runs with joyful vocalese rambled along with it. This album includes hits such as 'Out On The Rolling Sea' and 'Sloop John B.' One of our favorite LPs of all time. Silk screened cover glued over a hand manufactured Folkways style cover."
*V/A - Mata la Pena LP $15.99 (Mississippi Records)
"Compilation focusing on mellow dramatic music from around the world. Everything from Calypso to Flamenco to Thai ballads to Indonesian instrumentals to American country to Hawaiian music. Designed as a sort of sequel to our I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore compilation. Cover art by Chris Johaanson."
V/A - A Orillas Del Magdalena (Coastal Cumbias from Colombia's Discos Fuentes) LP $14.99 (Mississippi Records / Domino Sound)
"Call and response wailing, percussionists that play a measure then disappear, backwards accordions and a persistent, loping bassline comprise some of the elements that make up the Cumbia. Born on the banks of the Magdalena River in coastal Colombia, this infectious music represents a marriage of African, Spanish, and Indigenous influences. Antonio Fuentes began recording Colombia's music in 1934, founding his country's first record label, Discos Fuentes. These 12 gems -released between the mid 1950' and the mid 70's- are lovingly selected from the Discos Fuentes catalogue. Includes tracks by Andres Landero, Los Corraleros de Majagual, Los Guacharacos, and Nafer Duran amongst others."

"Their 1987 seven-song mini-LP on the Lazy label, this includes "She Loves You No Less," "The Things I Miss," "I Don't Need You," "Safe in Your Sleep," "Clair," "You've Got Nothing," and "(Please) Lose Yourself in Me." Original artwork, UK import."
*My Bloody Valentine - Glider LP $18.99
"This collects all the tracks from their 1990 "Glider" and 1991 "Tremolo" 12" EPs: "Soon," "Glider," "Don't Ask Why," "Off Your Face," "To Here Knows When," "Swallow," "Honey Power,"
*My Bloody Valentine - Sunny Sundae Smile LP $18.99
"This collects all 7 tracks from the "Sunny Sundae Smile" and "Strawberry Wine" 12" EPs, both of which were originally released in 1987 on the Lazy label: "Sunny Sundae Smile," "Paint a Rainbow," "Kiss the Eclipse," "Sylvie's Head," "Strawberry Wine," "Never Say Goodbye," and "Can I Touch You." Cover art is from "Sunny Sundae Smile." UK import."
*My Bloody Valentine - This is Your Bloody Valentine LP $18.99 (Dossier)
"Their 1985 debut album on the Tycoon label, recorded years before they developed the shoegazer sound that made them famous, is more like a back-alley collision of JOY DIVISION, THE CRAMPS and THE DOORS. The edgy and nearly deranged vocals of Kevin Shields drive the rockabilly-beat songs of the first side, and the more post-punk sound of the 2nd side. German import."
*My Bloody Valentine - You Made Me Realise LP $18.99
Two 12" EPs ("You Made Me Realise" and "Feed Me with Your Kiss") were released in 1988 on the Creation label to go along with the "Isn't Anything" album, both filled with great songs that could have very well made a fine album themselves, and now it's finally happened. This includes the title tracks from both, along with "Slow," "Thorn," "Cigarette in Your Bed," "Drive It All Over Me," "Emptiness Inside," "I Believe," and "I Need No Trust." *Blood Stereo - Your Snakelike King LP $26.99 (Pan)
"Brand new release from Brighton mongs Blood Stereo, duo of Dylan Nyoukis and Karen Constance. 'Your Snake Like King' picks up where last years 'The Magnetic Headache' left off, a shape shifting and strange mix of tape collage, free vocals and electro-acoustic mischief. Midnight to 3am recordings fueled by grape and smoke conjour up a blurred narrative, the meaning of which is never quite clear, like weird off camera sounds in some tripped out movie." "Anal fins tucked in tight behind them, Blood Stereo look like a pair of ill-kempt roosters, fighting over a doughnut. The guy rooster is jibbering in some unknown tongue, turning his face inside out, while shoving the microphone slowly through a hole in his cheek. The girl rooster appears to be pecking at him, either that or she's picking at various trash they have strewn around the stage. Every time she ducks her head there is the sound of a jet passing overhead. But when you look up at the sky there is no sign of a comtrail. After a while you think you are starting to get a handle on what they are doing, but the guy falls down and starts doing a spazz dance so utterly convincing you begin to worry about him. Then the girls starts screaming and it seems as though something is really profoundly wrong. And it is. But it's not like they're in any kind of trouble. They're just wrong, y'know? So savagely wrong from every angle that it's really tough to imagine there 's anything you could do to really help them. As if they'd even want in. In their masks or out, they sow confusion like wheat." - Byron Coley. The Lp is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, in a limited edition of 330 hand-numbered copies, pressed on 140g vinyl and comes in a poly-lined inner sleeve. It is packaged in a pro-press jacket which itself is housed in a two-tone silk screened pvc sleeve with interweaving geometric designs.
*Das Synthetische Mischegewebe - Frequency Conquistadors LP $26.99 (Pan)
"Words are more often then not the point of departure for many works of Das Synthetische Mischegewebe. The track - titles here stem from 'El Mundo Alucinante' de Reinaldo Arenas, which itself is inspired by François-René de Chateaubriand's 'Mémoires d'outre-tombe'. It is about time rather than history and about being in history. Having lost the war of time, the only thing that remains to do is being, and here we go, 'being infiniment exigent' in it's means of expression. DSM began in Berlin armed with a visual education from the early 80's. They quickly became part of the international industrial cassette scene. Composing for light installations with open-reel machines, cassette recorders, microphone and guitar fuzz boxes with both loud, quiet, occasionally full blast and frequently sneaking in little sounds, all alternating within a few seconds, create an electroacoustic anti-music. With unusual concerts in the underground network as well as in high art institutions and museums (such as Centre Pompidou) and later on with performances for mixed media installation, exhibitions and conferences on cognitive science and neurologic research related topics, the group toured with changing casts since the early 80's, and participated in international festivals throughout Europe and the US. Since 1982 they continue to produce vinyls, CD's and tapes on many international labels: Discos Esplendor Geometrico, RRRecords, Hypnagogia, Vinyl-on-Demand, Auf Abwegen, Harsh Reality Music, Equation Records, Das Cassetten Combinat and many others. Live and recording collaborations with musicians such as: The New Blockaders, Ralf Wehowsky, Frans de Waard, Ios Smolders, Zeitkratzer Ensemble, Artificial Memory Trace, ERG, MSBR, Toy Bizarre, Roel Meelkop and others. The Lp is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, in a limited edition of 330 hand-numbered copies, pressed on 140g vinyl and comes in a poly-lined inner sleeve. It is packaged in a pro-press jacket which itself is housed in a two-tone silk screened pvc sleeve with interweaving geometric designs." - label.
Ilios - Kenrimono LP $26.99 (Pan)
"'Kenrimono' is a type of pachinko machine for advanced players which gives certain privileges during the course of a high-risk game. This LP is entirely based on field recordings and manipulations made from sounds in pachinko parlors in Kansai area, Japan in 2007. A very intense and meditative atmosphere to be played at maximum volume. Active since the early 90's in sound art and image, ILIOS has been exploring the extremes of sound and image derived phenomena. Through constant change in his sound palette touching and surpassing the limits of the sound spectrum he definitely advocates for an anti-career. By 2009 ILIOS has performed more than 170 times in various venues and festivals in Asia, Europe, South and North America, pushing the space and body resistances to a hard test pursuing a state of alert for the human senses. He has done studio and live collaborations with the likes of: Francisco Lopez, Jason Kahn, Keiichiro Shibuya, Mattin, Michael Gendreau, Norbert Möslang, Coti K, Xabier Erkizia, Julien Ottavi, Bernd Schurer, Ralph Steinbruechel, Takehiro Nishide, Tzesne, Thurston Moore amongst many others. Since 1997 he runs Antifrost, a publishing label for sound media with more than 40 works published to date.

*Pink Floyd - Ummagumma Live Outtakes LP $19.99
"We can't explain the incongruous title, but what we've got here are very nice live versions of five psychedelic space rock classics: "Astronomy Domine," "Careful with That Axe, Eugene," "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun," "Interstellar Overdrive," and "Saucerful of Secrets," from an April 1969 performance in Birmingham and another the following month in Manchester. Fine sound, color artwork, UK import."

*David Russell - Artistic Suicide c10 + c20 $12.99 (Pizza Night)
"On point recordings from David Russell showcase his fine tuned approach to merging unpredictably frantic sounds and focused controlled sound experiments. Very hypnotic tracks juxtaposed against screeching noise blasts. A wide array of all the things David does so well. The dynamics of his more percussive pieces extends his repertoire widely on this one."
*Sudden Oak - Limestone Sinks & Stream Delats c30 cassette $7.99 (Pizza Night)
"Insanely psychedelic sounds from my favorite new west coast project, Sudden Oak. A duo which consists of heavily effected sax and guitar. It seems like somehow they are channeling the vibes of midwest INZANE sax noise zones like Uneven Universe and Graveyards, but wrapped in a blanket of pacific ocean style. Evokes images of out of place palm trees swaying in a summer storm. Edition of 75."
PLANAM - expected within 2 weeks
*Vito Acconci / New Humans - Disallow LP $22.99 (Planam)
"Disallow" is an art-record presenting the recording of a collaborative performance by poet-artist-architect Vito Acconci and New York group New Humans. Taking place within the sculpture installation "Disassociate" by artist Mika Tajima at Elizabeth Dee Gallery, New York, the release also includes the complete aural components that were present during the exhibition and live performances. For the public performances and private sessions within the exhibition, sculptures in the space were reconfigured to create divided recording spaces drawn structurally from Jean Luc Godard's "Sympathy for the Devil", an experimental film documenting the contentious making of the Rollings Stone's legendary song and its parallel politics. During this improvised public performance with New Humans, Vito Acconci read permutations of text from a set of seminal audio works from the 1970s, recombining lines and phrases on the move against New Human's acute and minimally deadpan sonic and rhythm progression. Vito Acconci has been a vital presence in contemporary art since the late 1960s; his confrontational and ultimately political works have evolved from writing through conceptual art, bodyworks, performance, film, video, multimedia installation and now architecture and design. New Humans is a New York-based noise band and moniker for artist Mika Tajima's collaborative music, art, and actions. NH's recent releases continue a working use of piercing drones, sheer static, and low bass frequencies. Members are currently Howie Chen, Mika Tajima, and Eric Tsai. The release also includes two subtle sound pieces by New Humans that were the ongoing sound elements in the "Disassociate" installation in which the performances and recordings occurred. The first, a popular song stripped leaving only the minimal register of static noise, it now resembles the anonymous crackling prelude of a vinyl record. The second, the humming drone produced by a guitar amp in waiting becomes substance without performance. Edition limited to 300 copies with full-color sleeve."
*John Duncan - The Nazca Transmissions LP $22.99 (Planam)
"On Christmas Eve, 2004, John Duncan received a mysterious email from an archaeologist working at the site of the Nazca Lines in Peru. He claimed to have discovered, and over time recorded, a variety of sounds actually generated by the enigmatic lines themselves. Familiar with Duncan's "Infrasound-Tidal", composed from source recordings taken from tides, seismic activity and barometric data from the Australian coastline, he suggested to Duncan the composition of a piece with these sources. All of the sources were modified in the studio of John Duncan, some radically, to bring out an unsettling, haunting quality. In mid-June 2005, the glorious 5-track piece was finally ready. John Duncan sent several messages to the archaeologist, none of them ever answered or returned. A hard disk crash effectively destroyed all of the email correspondence between them. What remains are the notes he sent that ostensibly describe the details of sites and times for the source recordings. Those notes have been reproduced on the insert included in this edition, also presenting John Duncan liner notes. First pressing limited to 380 copies, with embossed total-black cover, insert and full-color inner sleeve with wonderful space images of the Nazca Lines."
*No Neck Blues Band - Languid Red Marchetti LP $22.99 (Planam)
"Recorded close to the group's inception in 1994, "Languid Red Marchetti" is the NNCK sound in its empirical form, rhythmically a-linear and fundamentally abstract. While NNCK would go on to become a seven piece performing group, recording and touring extensively, this recording documents a smaller group of four original members engaged in the hermetically sealed sonic exploration which best locates their aesthetic origins. From the group's statement on "Languid Red Marchetti": "A proto-intuitive Latihan of feedback + pre-scaffold juxtaposition of layers which would come to constitute edifice, and eventually dwelling. Where we would soon occupy this sound, it here was a force in and of itself, its directionless propulsion compounding into substance and landscape".
This deluxe edition PLANAM LP comes with a NNCK generated essay on sound imaging through improvisation and is packaged in a full color jacket depicting "The hypothetical dissolve / corruption + subsequent inevitable repetition of Suprematism". Edition limited to 340 copies, with full-color cover, infra-Suprematist inner sleeve and ultra-liner notes insert by Keith Connolly.
REL
*Eli Keszler - Tilt CD $13.99 (REL)
"Tilt is a special edition CD, marking the 10th release on REL. It is a reissue from an out of print CDR originally released on the UK based label Reverb Worship. A solo percussion outing, Tilt features an extra track added for the REL edition and is entirely remastered and reworked from the original. Tracked live with no electronics or modification in the winter of 2009, Tilt covers a wide area of sound from glistening, spinning crotales and stick and drum clusters to high pitched sustain and sympathetic vibration formations. All of this works together to create dense textural metal motion that piles on top of itself. Later moving to a low end, multi-bowed cymbal rumble then returning again to more angular areas. Special double digit design, Tilt features a 'mini lp' size, multi-layered silk screen cover on archival royal blue paper. The CD itself is housed in a fold out canary yellow silk screened booklet, with a vellum wrap around. Featuring multiple drawings by Eli, the inside contains notes on dark grey cardstock with full color CD printing. Released just prior to Keszler's upcoming European solo tour, Tilt is a hand numbered one time edition of 300 copies which marks the beginning of REL's new limited CD series."
*Eli Keszler - Mills cassette $6.99 (REL)
"Mills is a US tour edition cassette, marking the beginning of a REL cassette series. Recorded in May and June of 2009. THREE LOBED RECORDINGS- expected in mid-late November
*D. Charles Speer & The Helix - Distillation LP + CD + download $? (Three Lobed Recordings)
LP released november 17, 2009 in a limited edition of approximately 900 copies. "it is a tremendous understatement to say that it is with grand excitement that three lobed recordings is proud to announce the release of distillation by d. charles speer & the helix. for the last couple of years we have been continually excited by each of the fruits that have resulted from speer/helix collaboration. for our money, last year's after hours album was one of the best released by anyone. distillation only ups the ante from that prior full length by elaborating upon some of the musical themes from the late 2008 "in madagascar" 7". the resulting album presents a tightly focused modern honky tonk quintet more than happy to blur the lines between country, psychedelia and the overall american musical tradition. consisting on this album of d. charles speer (aka dave shuford from the no neck blues band and enos slaughter), hans chew (last seen providing some ripping piano accompaniment on "fishtown flower" from jack rose's the black dirt sessions), marc orleans (enos slaughter, sunburned hand of the man), jason meagher (no neck blues band, coachfingers) and rob gregory (the suntanama), the helix are a seriously experienced and talented crew. distillation was recorded over time between the winter and summer of 2008 at the band's home away from home, meagher's black dirt studios in westtown, new york. margot bianca guests on backing vocals on a few of the album's tracks. the album starts off in monstrously infectious form with the leadoff track, "mason dixon crime" (a downloadable MP3 of which can be found here). the track's propulsive, rolling rhythm, dueling guitars and soaring chorus offer the perfect foil to speer's ever-present baritone vocals. to those new to the band, "mason dixon crime" provides the perfect introduction to speer's captivating narrative gift. he is a singer who is capable of simultaneously spinning a masterful tale using a delivery that leaves the listener feeling like there is something hidden and secret being held just out of sight. other prime examples of this gift are evident throughout "open season" and its soaring climax, the plaintive "time changes things" and the swaggering album-closing "shorty (a bastard cat)." while speer's vocal range is one of the band's calling cards, the helix also features the unique voice of hans chew's blazing piano. while chew aims for the fences throughout the rollicking "hardwood floors", he really gets cut loose (and to spend some time on lead vocal duty) on the seriously jamming "life insurance." one would be remiss to think that the helix is a one (or two) voice affair though - it is a totally solid full ensemble presentation as is evidenced by the jaunty full band workouts presented within both the instrumental "helical" and the rockin', rollin' and beer swillin' "gravedigger." distillation is pressed on 180g rti vinyl and housed within an old-style stoughton gatefold sleeve bearing new artwork from both turner williams and the band. as a bit of a first for three lobed, the album will be accompanied by a download coupon for DRM-free MP3s of the album." Pre-ordered copies of Distillation will include a glass-mastered CD (TLR-073) presenting a full, killer live set from the full band recorded on April 25, 2008 at the Turf Club in St. Paul (MN) that is not available separately."
*Steve Gunn - Boerum Palace LP + CD + download $? (Three Lobed Recordings)
LP released November 17, 2009 in a limited edition of approximately 800 copies. "steve gunn's prodigous talent for fusing traditional american song structures with a raga influence is almost criminally unheralded. gunn's songcraft is so strong and his playing style so effortlessly beautiful that folks should be shouting his name from every tall building and mountaintop. it is with such high esteem for the man's work that three lobed recordings is humbled by the association and thrilled to announce the release of boerum palace by steve gunn. without any doubt, boerum palace is a staggering accomplishment and is certainly gunn's most assured and confident work to date. native philadelphian gunn has been a stalwart of the american experimental scene for closing in on a decade. he is known by many for his contributions as one half of the core duo behind GHQ (with marcia bassett) as well as for his many other affiliations with underground luminaries such as tom carter, the magik markers and marc orleans. gunn has slowly cultivated his own solo work alongside his other obligations and involvements. after a few early CDR and cassette releases under the moniker "moongang," gunn gravitated towards performing and releasing music in his own name, culminating in the exceptional sundowner (digitalis industries, 2008). sundowner was, to that point, the most potent burst of gunn's songwriting abilities and remarkable playing abilities. following sundowner, gunn bunkered down to further hone his songwriting and boerum palace represents the overwhelming products of that effort. boerum palace represents steve gunn's first full-length release on vinyl and second album. the album starts off with a headlong rush into the hypnotic "mr. franklin" (a downloadable MP3 of which can be found here). gunn's fluid playing style, especially as portrayed withing this track, provides ample space for the development of infectious musical themes. the track ends in a dextrous duel between gunn's guitar and guest marc orleans' (of d. charles speer & the helix, sunburned hand of the man) vicious pedal steel. the album mixes gunn's long-form blues / raga / psych explorations alongside briefer cuts that equally display his songcraft. these tracks, such as "variation ii" and "jadin's dream," demonstrate that gunn is equally confident with shorter or longer compositions. gunn's voice is joined by an ethereal turn from the vanishing voice's heidi diehl on the album's central and haunting "house of knowledge." the track opens with a building central guitar theme. this theme allows gunn to layer on further guitar explorations. the tone set by these musical themes builds into the duo's vocal delivery that delivers volumes despite being uttered in gentle tones. other highlights include "cryin' eyes," an inspired reworking of j.j. cale's "crying eyes" featuring backing instrumentation from marc orleans, and the richly textured album finale "mustapha's exit." boerum palace is pressed on 180g RTI vinyl and housed within an old-style stoughton sleeve bearing new original artwork from mike pare and some of gunn's photography. the album will be accompanied by a download coupon for high quality DRM-free MP3s of the album." Pre-ordered copies of Boerum Palace will include a glass-mastered CD (TLR-074) presenting new, scarce and previously unheard Gunn material that is not available separately.

ULTRA ECZEMA
*Carlos Giffoni & Hive Mind - Claustrophobic Wreck LP $29.99 (Ultra Eczema)
"Although it's better than prison, it still isn't easy to live with two guys wearing an ankle bracelet, in the smallest possible wooden cabin somewhere in between new york and detroit. there's no food anymore, tab water is not drinkable, and eating each other's intestines seems to be the last enjoyable possibilty. The thick dense sound of synth throbbing bubbles up from these hungry bowels. 2 synths fighting their ways to better times, though right now everything looks pretty dark, gnarly and industrial, classic heavy synth waves, rhythmic madness and electronic sadness. comes in a collage sleeve by dt, limited to 300 copies."
